I think the argument is that in real life, your truck moves around and people come and go. On the internet, the photos are up indefinitely and any one of a million crazies with too much time on their hands might single you out.

Again I think it really just comes down to it being a false sense of privacy - if you manage to get the attention of some whack job online, chances are they probably won't let an obscured license plate slow them down. Especially if you post a lot of pictures...there are other ways of figuring out someone's location. IP addresses, metadata embedded in the photos you post, background details from photos, etc.

At the end of the day I think it's silly to obscure a plate but hey, it's a free country so have it if you so wish

When it comes to information security, the things that get scary are when some malicious actor can piece together a whole bunch of seemingly useless information in order to do something. When you post your plate on the interwebs, you're sending it to a global audience whom may have the resources to do something nasty with the right pieces of information. Given that it literally takes seconds to obscure a plate, why give them one more piece?

I know it'll be useless to 95% of this site, but I nominate the next thread be "101 ways to pour oil without a funnel and without spilling"

I've gone to quite a few very big an popular car shows like Route 66 Rendezvous or Hot August Nights . None of the thousands of cars at either of these shows have I ever seen plates obscured

You know how many spectators at these shows have Cameras ?????

I don’t care. Look up my plates on any car. PO Box who knows where. But if they really want to find you...they will if they try hard enough. But then again why make it easy for them?

Mehh... I have my business name, telephone # and e-mail address plastered on three sides of my truck; if they want to go Internet crazy on me, they don't need to search anything, just pick up the 'phone and call me....

I usually obscure just because it’s not much harder to do so and doesn’t hurt. It “might” hurt not to. I’ve also not obscured, but typically do.

Types who might want to use it, just because they are crazy? Someone like the OP below going all irrational on another member. Why make it easier. I know everyone is super badass and will say- let them come fine me blah blah blah... but why put your family in that situation in the first place. 1/million or billion odds? Probably, but then again...

    Tasteful modifications :)
For me it’s because I don’t want anyone knowing more info about me then I actually have visible. Even thou the 2nd amendment is very much present in my house, I don’t wanna risk some meth monkey on the internet tracking my ass down if I piss them off too much.

Not to mention, I’m also on the run from all the federal law enforcement agencies and have over 7 state and federal warrants to my name, as well as over 20 stolen 1st and second gen Tacoma’s in my possession. Not to mention I’ve also committed treason and am currently hiding at my house having a drink with Tupac himself. But that’s besides the fact of why I hide my license plate online. :bananadance::bowdown::ballchain:
