Hey guys I need some help troubleshooting a problem.

My 2011 Tacoma recently started making an awful squealing, squeaking, almost metal on metal sound while turning my steering wheel.. it's definitely coming from the passenger side and the noise is really bad whether I turn to the left or the right.

Steering in general all feels completely fine it's just an awful sound. At first I thought Lower Ball Joint, but it looks ok although at 110k miles maybe I should replace it.

Thinking maybe a bushing in the wheel/hub assembly. Or maybe a CV rebuild, like the knuckle. My CV boots all look fine. Tierod looks ok. Although CV boot can look fine, no tears, and still be broken inside.

Here's a video of the sound, and a photo of the LBJ.

    Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

And yes, it's dirty, I recently hit some mud puddles

The actuarial life of the Taco wheel bearings is 100k. So replace both as you got your money's worth out of them. Oh, and use the newer Toy vs. aftermarket bearings if you plan on keeping your truck long term. The newer Toy bearings were quietly redesigned, and have one more roller in each half and each of the rollers is longer. I'm talking about the front ones. The rears are a more robust design of two large side-by-side ball bearings and seem to only fail when a side seal of the rear diff goes bad.

So, I actually replaced the whole passenger wheel hub assembly about 9 months ago.. the same side making all this noise. Did the replacement fail? I don't think so.

When the wheel hub went bad it was making a terrible grinding noise while the tire was spinning rolling down the road... That's not what's happening here.

everything is smooth and quiet driving down the road, and everything feels fine.. it just makes that noise when I turn the steering wheel left or right

Yeah, I found a few other threads with VERY similar sounds that got fixed with new ball joints. Mine aren't loose or anything though, as I checked them last night. Jacked up by the LCA.

My LBJ Looks decent, but does have a lot of seepage. I have a grease gun ... Fine needle.. and could try adding some lube. Although I read that's just a temporary fix

I would try that with a fine needle..I had a older Honda Civic that made the same noise and greased the ball joints with a fine needle and the noise went away. Keep in mind it would be a Temporary fix until you could replace the ball joint.

Definitely not the tires squeaking... It's a new sound coming from that right side. 100%

And that's a cold start with a lot of echo in my garage. Engine has sounded that way for years. Lol. Keeps running strong, always gets new oil and love on time..

Had the same sound on my passenger side about a month ago, used a needle to inject some lubricant into the LBJ and sure enough it stopped the sound. Had both replaced and no more noises. Shop said driver was worn out as well just had not started making noises yet.

I also thought it was something else because my LBJ's looked fine but after jacking the truck up I eliminated lower shock mount bushing and wheel bearing so that's when I injected lubricant into it and found the problem. Hope this helps.

Well, my shock mount wouldn't make that noise while the truck isn't moving... Right? Or is that something I should check
