I need a little help fixing the backup lights on my '01. I have replaced bulbs but no luck with the lights working, there are no circuit boards to go bad in these lights just regular bulbs and sockets. Tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals all work just the backup lights have gone out. Let me know where I should start looking and how to best test the circuit out. Thanks for the help.

    Tasteful modifications :)
First I would unscrew the lights and take the cover off and make sure the lightbulb housing isn’t fried or rusted, or having anything wrong with it in general, next I would double check your wiring harness for your taillights and double check to see weather or not any of the wires look out of place there. As far as after that, I would check your fuses for you reverse lights too as that could just be the issue if both lights are working improperly. Good luck buster!

I just replaced my back-up switch because my reverse lights quit working also. I just unplugged the switch and jumped the two pins in the connector to verify it was the switch.

The switch is what I have been thinking was the problem but haven't look into how bad of a job it is to get to and change out. Let me know your experience changing it out, can you get to it from inside the cab by taking out the console/shift lever boots.

It’s very easy to get to from underneath the truck on the passenger side of the transmission.

I just checked the switch and it is bad, unplugged it and jumpered it out both lights came on. BTW the switch on mine is on the driver side of the transmission.
