ECGS Bushing - Is it a must?

I have the same, it settled to 2".

But I did the ECGS since I was already in there replacing everything, removing the axle was only another 20min, not a big deal at all.

Edit: just saw your earlier post about the low speed clunking. I did have some vibration at low speed, but mostly while decelerating and in the 20-35mph (+/-). Mine was cured by a carrier bearing drop. Axle shims should have worked as well.

 

It felt fine for a month or so until last week, which would indicate a failure such as the needle bearing rather than poor pinion angle which would have shown up the second I drove off after finishing the lift but good thought!

 

What’s the difference between the 7.5” vs 8” bushing? Which one do I purchase?

 

It could be your front body mounts, they’ve been known to go bad even on new Tacomas.

There’s a few threads on here detailing the install of the aftermarket Energy Suspension Bushings. They’re about $30 and a moderately easy install.

 

Hmm interesting I'll have to check those out thank you. The weird thing is I was hearing more noise/getting more vibes basically one day where it was really cold and snowed about 10". After it warmed up they toned down and the next time it was cold and snowy it was still better. Either way I had the bushing installed yesterday and so far all is good.

 

Yeah if you still get popping or weird noises up front it could be bad front cab mounts. There’s at least two threads in 3rd Gen and one in 2nd Gen about it, spans a couple generations.

 

I just replaced my lower front core mounts and I still get a clicking / clacking when the suspension compresses hard. Someone said it could be sway bar links, but what does that even mean haha

 

Depends on what size your rear diff is. The OR has the 8 3/4” (so does the manual Sport I believe) others are 8”, and older single cab gens 4cyl I believe are the 7.5”.

This is a very illogical post. You say there is no need if no issue, yet when you pulled yours with very low miles, there was already a bearing missing. Hope everyone realizes that these needle bearings can go into the differential and destroy it. This bearing is a total design flaw and everyone should replace it especially if your lifting your truck if for no other reason than you’re already half way there.

 

If you put in the Energy Suspension ones you have to grease them up or they can make noise, like the poly bushings for leaf hangers. When they’re dry they tend to grip the metal, if that makes sense.

 

Yeah I used the energy lube.

 

It never changed before or after the energy upgrade. Probably the coils clacking? Idk

 

Maybe, good to use lube, I use it on everything!!

IDK if it's been said in here or not but you don't need to replace the bearing if you put in an ARB locker.

 

Probably a stupid question but I saw you have to take the spindle apart etc to get to this damn thing so does this require an alignment afterwards?

 

ditto. Baffles me people spend 30k+ on a truck and bitch about a $50 fix that will SAVE their front diff from being torn to shreds.

Guys - there is a TSB for this. If Toyota themselves is willing to admit there’s an issue and eat the cost to fix it, what other proof do you need that this NEEDS to be taken care of (or else)?

 

I ordered one of these for my 19 now with 2k miles since I'm installing a lift next weekend. Ordered tools too so when done, I may post them here for borrowing if everyone's pays it forward and sends to the next user.

 

Do you think if I buy the ECG bushing Toyota will replace it for me? I’m posted in Kellogg, Idaho and far from my family shop in Portland. Or I’d totally have my brothers help me out.

 

yes, that’s what Toyota dealer apparently are having people do anyways to remedy the issue.

I just hate stealerships so much I won’t let them touch my truck. I almost trust jiffy lube more, that’s how dumb they are
