Marketing has nothing to do with it, science and testing do however. The post of mine you linked to was to show that not all octane ratings have the same additives for this supplier, the Shell link demonstrates that.

Regarding your claim "It's a huge marketing ploy that you and many others fall victim to.shell, costco, xom, you name it, all the same shit" - did you even read the post I made, that included this testing evidence?
"Compare Top Tier fuel #6 to Top Tier fuel #5 in the test results graph on page 17 (pdf page 18) - Top Tier fuel #5 has 7 times more deposits than TT fuel #6:
    https://www.aaa.com/AAA/common/AAR/files/Fuel-Quality-Full-Report.pdf"

No matter how many times you or others repeat the myth regarding fuel additives "all the same", the tests above prove you are incorrect. Science, much better than marketing or myths ;)

2009 TRD OR DC 4x4. 16 or so on my last calculation which was mostly highway. So probably about 15 average. Nowhere close to the ratings.

Haha. According to my Fuelly app tracking 3821 gallons of gas my average is 13.7 mpg. It's probably the one thing I don't love about my truck.

It's not a marketing ploy. It's proven via research. And if it wasn't they would be charged with fraud. Lol.

This is so frustrating reading this right now. I have noticed I am maybe getting 260 miles out of a tank when I am sure I used to get around 360/tank.

I need to dive into this and stop throwing $$$ away.

Lots of threads with good (easy) recommendations.

Start with unplugging the negative terminal on your battery and cleaning your MAF and throttle body. How does your air filter look?

Check the PSI in your tires if you are running anything other than the stock tire you probably need to adjust for best tread wear and mileage.

Run some Techron Fuel treatment and a few tanks of premium gas.

When was the last time you changed diff/tc fluid? Lubed your driveshaft zerks? Transmission fluid? Your brake slide pins lubed and moving freely?

    These trucks aren’t complicated.

I keep up on the regular maintenance. Fluids are good, chassis is regularly inspected and all lube points along with filters are maintained.

Throttle body could use a clean and tranny is due for a service. Now the diff, definitely needs a service. I think with 10-12MPG I am due to throw a code.

Overall I can’t complain. By the end of Feb, I will hit 300K. I have had some of the best times of my life in this truck. I like the challenge and I hope for at least another 200k if I can get it.

Could always try replacing o2 sensors. One might be going bad but not throwing a code.
