2020 TRD Pro Taillight Condensation

I was just outside looking at the truck and noticed that there was a good amount of condensation build-up inside the taillights of my Tacoma. This truck has been sitting for days so there wasn't any heat from the truck to help with the build-up. This is after a good couple days of rain but I have noticed that there is pretty much always condensation after rain. I haven't seen any pooling of water but there is noticeable water along the out rim of the taillights, most likely just running along with the outer seals. The front headlights don't show any condensation. I'm a bit concerned since I haven't experienced this with any of my other vehicles.

Does anyone else notice this on their truck?

 

Both sides means it's 99% a fluke.

They need to get really warm to dry out though the vent and you're good to go.

Its possible that it was the same person on line putting in both taillights and something isn't seated on both, but the odds are slim there. I work in vehicle manufacturing, FWIW.

No, they shouldn't do that but they're probably not broken, so to speak. It was warmer and more humid in the lights when they were assembled than the cooler temperature your truck was evidently parked in at the time of the pic.

Two 10mm bolts to pop them out, make sure everything is seated on the back, bend the tabs on the body back in place to close the gap and reinstall. If you are damn-determined, take them in the house and heat them with dessicant packs over the light holes.

Off the wall thought- the black surrounds inside are making it heat up inside and causing the moisture to vaporize whereas the lights would usually be doing that? I dunno, go drive your new toy, dude

 

I sent an email to the dealership and will contact them again tomorrow to see what they say.

Yeah, for the amount spent, hopefully they’ll do something about this.

 

Yeah, I agree, retail on those lights is like $140 each, if they're a stand up place I would expect they'll pop another pair in and send you in your way as a thank you for buying the top trim level.

If they do and there's a shitty gap at the front of the tail lights afterward, get in touch with me, I'll show you how to fix it. It's so easy. I had to figure it out last night after installing my bedlights. Theres a line for me (see my career comment above) of what I'll make them do for me and what I don't trust them to do right.

 

after car wash (done by hand) I notice a small thin line along the edge of the top of the taillights but never anything further in on the housing and nowhere as much as the pictures here reveal; it'll be interesting to hear what they say...keep us posted

Yeah when I initially got the 2020 lights and I noticed it happening I was concerned but it's not much I have to assume that there is always going to be small traces (or at least that's my rationale lol)...seeing your seems like a red flag (imho); in any case I think your on the right path

 

I would assume the same. Some condensation just makes sense but on a car that's been siting outside for days with no additional heat build-up, it's just odd. Especially with the amount in there. Hopefully, there's no gaps in the seal and water is actually getting in there.

 

Mine do it too, no big deal as they haven't got any worse over time.

Yes, almost exactly the same, it depends on how the sun hits the rear of my truck.

 

Interesting. On both taillight? Does for headlight condensate?

 

My concern with yours is that the condensation will leave deposits and look crappy. A little, meh, droplets... a little excessive. If there are spots when they dry, take pics of that too.

No need to be rude when you bring it up, you seem to know that and no, it's not an LFA but regardless, you work for your money just like the techs, the people on the assembly line and so on, so you spent the money, you want it right.

 

Yes both sides, I also notice it in "pardon the pun" but the Fog Lights will completely fog over sometimes.

 

Oh man, I didn't even think about that. If it dries up with a bunch of water spots, then that'll really be something to be mad about. Over time, it'll just look like complete crap.

Right, so while you're in communication and the truck sits, look for spots. No spots, then no harm/no foul.
