Just started hearing a little bit of a whine as I turn some corners. Power steering problem? Idk? She also likes to tease me with some pops and creaks as I turn/go over speed bumps/brake (from momentum of the truck shifting forward. So it almost seems like a suspension issue but I’m not entirely sure?) Basically making some sort of crunch or creaking noise 24/7 now. I knowww I’m undoubtedly due for some tuneups given I’m at 265k but what would be my most likely suspects? I’ve had the bilstien 5100s leveling kit for almost 4 years now. Tax return season can’t come sooner lol. Anything helps thank you guys.

Probably just need to remove the screen from the inside the power steering pump and clean it. Gets clogged with gunk over the years and strains the system when the fluid can't move through it easily

Is that something that I could do fairly easily or should a shop take care of that?

Supposed to be pretty easy, have to remove the reservoir but it's like 3 bolts. Then do a fluid change. Meant to say reservoir in my first post, not pump

Good advice from @eon_blue ^^ Keeps your pump healthy and happy. Get a new o-ring to seal the reservoir to the pump. The part number is: 90301-11016. I back washed mine from the bottom with brake parts cleaner.

Most parts stores have a syringe (a.k.a. turkey baster) like the one in this picture to extract the fluid so you don't leave a mess. Tim notes a more advanced type in his video below.

Just to keep the PS fluid like new and the system performing optimally, I do an PS fluid rotation with each oil change. It only takes a few minutes. The rewards outweigh the effort. I have cars running way over 250,000 miles and never experience any type of PS system or rack issues.

@Timmah! video about using the extractor method.
