Recently got my Taco and did not really like the side mounting to the rail for my bike so went to the dealer and bought the rail header

The holes make no sense really because they did not line up with the 2 factory pre-drilled/threaded holes

I drilled my own holes but then after install it does not sit flush against header

If you installed or know do i need to drill more holes into the bed header on the ends to make this more stable or just the middle two holes are enough??

    THanks

Pretty sure it mounts under that rail. Not to it.
So you would be mounting it to the composite bed.

The holes are pre-drilled all you do is line it up and screw it in.

It goes UNDER and should be level with the sides.

Lemme help with a pic of the 2nd Gen rail installed in my 3rd Gen with snaps in place for a Softopper:

As was said above, just reuse the five existing fasteners. There are blind nuts on the back side, so no worries about those.

Don't worry. Just paint those new holes for rust protection. Otherwise, you didn't ruin anything. The rail is as strong as it was before.

I had a 2011 with the header rail, the sales rep had no clue, went to parts dept, could not get header rail. stopped doing it on Tacos Apx 2015, 2016 , just pulled it off my 2011, matched up perfectly on my 2020, all you need is a Torx 30 male to work with your socket, works great and holes lined up perfectly!

Shop around. I bought mine through Bosch Toyota on Amazon for around $50 shipped. They fluctuate a little so like most things I put it in my saved for later items and buy when the price drops. Local dealer wanted $62

I used to use that same Rocky Mounts mount and loved it. You might find that moving it further to either side helps prevents you from having to climb into the bed to mount and remove the bike every time. Enjoy the ride!

Yeah the 3rd gens dont come with it
    I paid $32+tax after 20% off
the actual plugs were almost more money then the rail itself, and ordered a BAMF corner support

Does the 2nd gen bar sit any lower than the 3rd gen? Mine sits higher than the side rails making it difficult to seal a tonneau cover.
