    this and that
Not trying to debate over which version cracks, I saw all that in the posts. My question was, what’s causing the failures? What kind of driving styles are causing these failures in the stock and gussetted spindles?
The reaon I bring it up is that, I see no real reason to rush to shop or a quest for a local welder to buy or do work that’s not necessary unless your driving style or demand needs it. Casual trail riding ain’t gunna cause theses issues unless some bashing is going on.
What I don’t see is the comments that explain the whys. “I was hauling ass down a washboard road and bent my spindles steering ball joint” or “ I was crawling the gate keeper and cracked the gusset under load when my wheel bound up”.

Driving fast like a retard is the main cause.

I don't think it had anything to do with the 37s. But I've had other things happen that they might have influenced ....

You definitely hold the record for most broken spindles. I’m guessing you’ll be going with burg spindles. if they didn’t exist would you be running gusseted spindles again or stock spindles? Asking for a friend

I've got my fun money stretched out on 2 trucks now, I've got a vagabond on order for my other truck so no big purchases for a while until I've got all that paid off.

I just repaired these, I just filled in the cracks and added some weld wrapped around the edges/corners where I should have put in when I welded them up originally. Gonna put them back in and see how long until something cracks again. I find it odd that 1 cracked along the edge of the bead on one, but the other started cracking through the base material. Maybe got better penetration on one than the other?

Admittedly, I've been driving way faster than I should be...... I somehow dented the inner lip on one of my wheels and had to get it repaired since it wasn't holding air.

I'm going to try and stop driving like a retard, every time I go to fix something I find at least 3 other things that need repaired or fixed. It's getting old. :frusty:

Quit driving like an asshole. :cookiemonster:

Knowing I'm not the only one having consistent issues makes me feel slightly better though. Looks like youve got some cracks in the same places I had them too.

Pretty much, I drive my MT truck like an LT truck, its just so damn fun though and handles it so well.

Yeah, I am fine with it and not really surprised, not great but better than bending the shit out of it and being stranded. Patch it up and move on. I probably should pick up another pair and have them on standby, these have been through the wringer. Or build a jig and work on a fully fab'd one, I don't think it would really be that tough of a project if I have the time to take it slow and work on it a few hours here and there.

Stating the obvious, but the vehicle manufacturer has these forged for a reason- so you don't get fatigue cracks at welds.

I don’t think they are forged they are just billet hub mounting plates with the rest being fabricated from 1/4” plate. But still a bulletproof solution.
