Alternator Replacement

Where does one source the new filter screens? I’ve searched around but don’t see any available at NAPA or Rock Auto.

 

Just had to replace my alternator today after it seized and snapped the belt. 130k miles, but it did sit in the cold Newfoundland air for 2.5wks over the holidays.

 

Sorry to hear about your troubles....question - did you put in an OEM or Aftermarket alternator?

 

Aftermarket Napa. We'll see how she goes. She just got stranded and i put whatever the shop had on hand in. So aftermarket it was

 

Just a note that yes the alternator must be out to change the tensioner assembly but the AC compressor also has to be unbolted (4) and pushed out of the way to unbolt the tensioner. You can order a Denso rebuilt like the dealer sells from Carid for $117 and core with free return shipping on core. Rockauto also has the Denso for $123. plus core.
Saw that video before I did mine and it helped and that gray plastic cover kind of gets squeezed and pried to come off and not obvious or easy.

I bought an alternator from auto zone. After about 3 years, it stopped charging until I jump start the car. Then worked perfectly fine for a few months, then had to jump it again. Frequently having to jump increased until it became once a week. So I brought it in, they test it and say it works. I told them what it was doing so they replaced it under their lifetime warranty. The second one started doing the same thing after about 9 months. So I bring it in, got the world’s worst parts guy. He said it works, I told him what it does, he says well it works now so put it back in. The back and forth banter escalated to screaming at each other’s face. The urge to put my fist in his face is growing. Finally he caved and slammed a replacement on the counter. Number 2 lasted about 2 years before the same thing happened again. So I bring it in being certain I’m unarmed so I don’t kill someone. I got the manager this time, a really friendly gal. She says the computer says I returned it. Luckily their sticker part number is still on it. She did end up giving me replacement number 3 because she was able to look at the last transaction and see the pricks name. Even though she did the right thing, I never go to auto zone anymore for anything.

Did this today after 130K miles.

The only things I did different was removal and install from the wheel-well......and I smashed the back of my hand pretty good. Ha! Great video.
