    Sorry for the delay, first day back to work is always the longest.........

    Anyway, yea, when the manufacturer says 42" that refers to the overall length, sometimes even including the brackets that come with them.

    Here you can see how the 42" fits in the 40" cutout

    Right now the light bar is not up against the fairing at all. It's sitting about 1.5" away. This picture shows that.
