With this truck you have to work the throttle between 3-4 to get it to hold. Mat has discussed this and apparently it's a PITA because that's the biggest gear ratio change.
Try 19770. If you can handle the tip-in in first gear it's fucking awesome. My best MPG's too.

Did not try it. I got my tuner and all that I seen available for download was 19800

Dude. This is exactly what everyone wants. Especially the shifting. I'm not sure what you expected but if you are not satisfied with what this tune has provided you need to buy a new truck. And you think 21+MPG in a 4,400 pound truck is disappointing or something? First truck maybe?

Uhh, you just said the tune doesn't do much...except all the stuff everyone wants. I call it a drastic improvement.

Had to reread what I wrote and see what brought your comment on at all in response to my post. Brand new the truck with stock tune got the 20.5-21.5 mpg with 87 octane. Didn’t complain about it once that I read. First truck, no.

if I’m not satisfied I need to buy a new truck? Once again never said I wasn’t nor did I imply in any way that I wasn’t happy. I just stated it doesn’t seem to help with mpg but I installed tune after summer was over and not sure if winter gas in Alabama (said this because I wasn’t sure if Alabama has winter gas with its warmer climate as much as others) would cause me to average lower than 20 or so without the tune. Basically it’s not been installed long enough to see if it’s helped it or hurt it economy wise but I’m satisfied either way. I didn’t install the performance tune just to get top end fuel economy because that would be dumb seeing as how 93 octane costs over $3 a gallon compared to 2.20 a gallon for 87. 87 octane getting 15 mpg is more economic that running 93 octane if it got me 20 mpg.

As for shifting, it shifts great besides going from 3-4 and many other 2019 guys have stated this and it’s a known problem. Even the developer said he was having a hard time with it just read back within the last 150 pages or less.

Does this help clarify? Dude? :)

What I meant by that is it doesn’t do much in comparison to what the other guy was expecting or so that’s how I took it. It doesn’t give the truck v8 or twin turbo power, just a minimal gain of maybe 5-10% increase hp and tq wise. It doesn’t jump mpg from 17 to 25 and doesn’t claim to. The tune offers minimal gains percentage wise but they’re gains. It’s software not hardware so there’s only so much that can be done without physically changing things on the drive train. Seems as the other guy was expecting more And that’s where my post came from. Relax and don’t be so uptight and snap just because you read something out of context on a forum. Adding your own twist saying I’m not satisfied is just your opinion and not justified anywhere I spoke about.

Sho 'nuff dude! I read that and took it to mean you were less than impressed. It is a small V6 in a heavy truck with some funky ass valve and injection tech in it. I am impressed for sure. I lost my first gen (2003) in a wreck about 7 months ago. Loved it for 16 years and wheeled the hell out of it. But it was under powered for towing and struggled at altitude. I am really starting to love this 2019 but only since OV came to the rescue!

Cool. We're on the same page. Did not mean to sound confrontational and I thought I was polite. I am not uptight and if I snap, you will know it!

No worries. That’s a lot of downside to not being able to relate as humans. Text is quite misleading and one word in the wrong spot can’t be easily misconstrued and cause problems. Glad there’s no hard feelings!

Also I had a second gen but mine was 2015 and ran perfect and I traded it in while it was still quite valuable on my 2019. My 2015 was also just a 2wd sr5 and did everything I ever truly needed. Going straight to the 2019 the drive train seemed to just lack so much in so many little ways but I purchased the tune for shifting and shifting only. Mpg gains if any, great. Horsepower and torque gains if any, great. Shifting, despite the weird 3-4 shift, is hands down way better than before. Today alone was the perfect example but too long to explain. Beforehand my truck loved to dance up and down and up and down on same tiny inclines it was crazy. Constantly wanting to get into 6th gear as fast as possible just to instantly downshift soon as it did while never changing throttle position. That and other quirks of the trans I just really didn’t like finally pushed me to purchase tune. Definitely wouldn’t go back even if he never changes the tune again to alleviate the odd 3-4 shift.

I'm aware of the 3-4 shift. Have spoken with many people about it.
It's set to be fixed in the next, and final update.
The reason I am not just sending out here and there fixes is because it's a lot of work setting up, preparing files, making the fixes, etc. Only for a major update to come shortly after.

It has happened in the past and is a real mess. Nobody knows what tune to use, what version, etc etc etc.

So all of it is set to be finalized in 2.0.

    The 3-4 shift,
A lot, a lot... of torque converter tuning has been done
    More ACIS tuning
Throttle tuning for each gear (AT and MT)
Removing throttle restrictions where possible on higher gears due to torque calculations.

These trucks are not easy to calibrate, and what seems like a "quick fix" presents new things.
Which is why when you change one thing, it changes how everything responds.
It all requires a finely tuned balance.

there are a lot of components to the tacoma tune, if you think about it. And it's not like we have some multi million dollar backed software company to have a team of engineers deciphering the code (like HPTuners. But it's coming for this platform you'll get to see how many things make a part of the whole system).

This is why 2.0 went back to how I normally do things. Calibrating my way. Not using biased forum feedback. (With the exception of a few very helpful people.) I am slow, and take my time. It's a time taking process, and part of why I can create tunes others simply...can't.
It can take days, weeks to gather data, test, compare, analyze, etc.

I have flashed my tacoma 500+ times. At least. And some days are 8 hours of figuring out what doesn't work. Haha. (When it comes to solving the torque control in this thinout
But guess what, I figured it out, and have zero throttle limit at all in boost.

Up until yesterday I was on 91 19800. Trying out 19770 with more aggressive tip in for a bit. Pretty sure I’ll not be using the more aggressive tip in. It’s different, can’t say good or bad. It has coolness factor of quicker acceleration from stopped to going but today while needing to feather the pedal took me a bit to get used to. Also if I’m going slow like say in a very bumpy parking lot it’s definitely not good for that :). I bet I looked dumb pulling out of police station parking lot tonight running over bumps and truck surfing like crazy since my foot bumped and changed throttle position too! My aunts live right beside the police station in old downtown jasper and share a driveway that goes through to backside of police station parking lot.

Anyway I ran 19800 since I installed mid-early December last year. Was also going to try the 87 performance eventually and see if there a noticeable difference to make 93 octane worth purchasing for the time until turbos are released.

Personally I think you guys are doing fine. I knew you had already known about the issue from prior reading.

I personally thought 2.0 would have a fix to it from what I thought you said before also but didn’t think you’d release the final version til about the time you started selling the turbo kits. Either way as said prior I’m satisfied overall and the 3-4 shift is no game changer compared to the top end of shifting problems the tune fixes. Can’t tell ya how much better the truck rides down the road now compared to before and not just 5-6. I can ride through slow town traffic through curves and slight hill grades and it actually hold a gear now and it’ll hold 5th on its own riding slow rather than try to go into and out of 6th repeatedly at say 40-45mph.

Thank you Mat for the email out today. Finally got my 17 Handheld done. Holy mother of god is that fun. I have been running on 255 85 toyo MT, little added weight (im weighing in about 5200) MBRP turn down and AFE dry filter (just to clarify all things) and wow is 91 performance 2.0 beta awesome! I thought i would go all out and dam it is fun. I put on just over 70miles in about hr or so. The little start/tip in throttle is fun and all! I love this truck even more. (never had a big complaint on stock) This makes my truck feel lighter in a sort of sense. I dont even feel like im on MT tires anymore, wow lol. My younger brother drove after me and noticed the slight dead ish throttle at 5th gear 60 some mph but it wont bother me. This tune is awesome so far :D Lets see how my canadian winter goes with this! 4x4/4low should be alot of fun! :D. Gear lock is pretty sweet as well!

If anyone is curious to see the handheld more on our tacomas and whatever may be your reason! I did a full unbox/install process of the 16+ Handheld! It is pretty easy and walk in the park! Just thought i would share this with anyone thats curious on the HH. Tomorrow evening I plan on uploading a first drive/impressions and comparsion to stock video. My reactions are priceless but its all legit! #Feedbackwelcome
