I currently drive a 2009 access cab 2.7 2wd. It's a great truck and I love it but in the interest of lowering the household bills I thought of this idea. I found a 2002 regular cab auto 2.4 2wd with 110K miles for 5K dollars. I am thinking of swapping the 2009 in for the 2002. 110K sounds like alot of miles, but this is a Yota so......

Any problems I should look for if I do go look at this truck? Are the autos reliable??? I wanna lower my bills not create a money pit of repairs. Opinions??

    Check the frame for rust.

Spend some time in the 2002 cab to see if you'd like its smaller dimensions.

My stepson owned a '99 reg cab with the 2.4 and it was military grade tough without a doubt. He had the manual though but I am confident Toyota did not put a POS auto in there. Especially by 2002-they knew what these trucks were going to go through. His truck saved his and his girl's life when it was rearended by an F250 utility loaded with auto glass-that little diehard drove home! It was totalled though. You will NEVER hear a sad story about these trucks. I say do it because you know it will pay

I wouldn't... Going from 2nd gen bucket seat to 1st gen bench will be hard and you will kick yourself. The 1st gen bench is BAD and will kill your back...

    My '02 has bucket seats...

And to OP, my '02 has 106k and still runs just fine. As long as it wasn't treated like crap by the previous owner, it should be solid.
