My first build. It hums like crazy so I’m going to have to shield everything with copper tape and I need to spend some time setting it up, but overall I’m happy with the results.

    Very clean!

Does the hum stop when you touch the strings? Grounding the bridge is an important item that often gets overlooked.

No it hums all the time. I didn’t ground the bridge though, which I need to do as well. I’m not sure how I’m going to do that though because the bridge isn’t coming out.

You'd typically run a wire from the base of the bridge inserts through the body to the area with the rest of the wiring and ground it to one of the POTs. If you didn't drill a hole for that you could get away with a very thin wire run from the base of the bridge to the POTs routed under the pick guard. In a pinch I've seen people use a high E string for this.

That said, since you're humming even when touching the strings then there's other grounding and shielding needed anyway. If you're tearing into things anyway it'll be a trivial extra step to run the wire correctly. It'd be a shame to muddy up the face of that guitar. It's really nice.

A really random long-shot thought I just had -- you've plugged a different guitar into the same amp/cable setup without any hum, right?

I ask because I had an insane hum after rebuilding my SG, but it turned out that I was using a speaker cable rather than an instrument cable between the guitar and the amp. I'd changed a bunch of stuff around while redoing the guitar and introduced one too many variables. Once I swapped out to the right kind of cable, the hum was completely gone. Stupid mistake and lesson learned. :)

Like I said, it's a long shot but it'd be nice if you didn't have to tear into everything all over again.

Definitely not the cable/amp. I need to take it all apart anyway to raise the pickup height and add the copper shielding in anyway so drilling a whole from the pickup cavity wouldn’t be a problem, I just wouldn’t be able to solder to the bridge pegs. Not sure if it’s worth just trying to get a wire in so that it’s touching.

Extra tuner holes drilled in the rear of the headstock due to Eddie changing them out.

yeah... Russian amps imported by Gibson. a friend had the MK120 head, but sold it when we couldn't find the oddball Russian tubes for it anymore. super cool amp, kinda like a Mig100 but louder and fuzzier.

super rare! the 60w amp pops up every now and then, the 120w even less, and this is the first time i've seen a cab for sale.

hold on to it! aside from the carpet covering, those are built to last!
