I tried to dig through that mind bogglingly long OV Tune development thread, but could not find the answers I needed.

    2020 TRD-OR ~3000 Miles

My transmission shifting is a little clunky, it's learned a bit but it's definitely noticeable. Worst on the high ways, it is very slow to downshift to pass and the acceleration feels very non-linear relative to the position of the gas pedal if that makes sense. I have to damn near floor it to get a shift to pass on the high way. I feel like I'm wasting MORE gas with this clunky shifting while the transmission supposedly learns how I drive as opposed to just having a set shift table. ECT mode shifts a lot better, but I'd rather my standard drive mode just do its job.

Anyway, OV tune sounds like its solved a lot of these issues for people and I want to give it a shot. A few questions on my end.

-Does the tune affect the function of the ECT, ATRAC, or Crawl Control in anyway? Id like to retain my crawl functions.

-Does the purchase of a tune come with the updates? I see 2.0 is coming out. If that will be a new purchase I'd rather hold off.

-Is the tune tied to a laptop? Id have to use my work laptop to install it, which I will have to give back one day. I don't want to lose access to my hard earned money for it.

-Any other newbie advice or guidance would be appreciated.

    1. Depends on what version of the tune you install. ECT can be affected, but not the other items

    2. So far updates are free. No guarantee that won't eventually change, but I doubt it.

    3. Yes, it's licensed to a specific laptop. Get a cheap personal laptop. Its It's possible to swap laptops, but it requires coordinating with Matt.

@OVTune will be happy to answer any concerns or correct my statements if needed.

Im less concerned about ECT, I tow very little. Most of my utility is in the bed. So that's good news! I just want the truck to shift properly and predictably.

Thanks for the heads up on the laptop. I can address that problem.!

Yeah then my biggest concern would just be the 2.0 switch. If that's going to be a free update I'm about ready to pull the trigger.

I can almost guarantee that 2.0 will be a free update.

@tonered can you confirm? Have you heard otherwise?

that thread is massive to read thru, the tune if it solves the shifting issues is worth it alone, realistically what kind of hp/torque increases do we see in the 3.5l tho?

last I saw it was 20hp~ and 35f/lb~ i believe (not even gonna go and check becuase thread is crazy). it was a decent amount.

Im waiting for some 3/4 year reviews before I bite the bullet. Im worried about engine longevity with the tune, just because it changes so much.

The dyno curves, both OVT and independent comparison, are posted on the OVT website.

I feel the tune is better for the motor just from a smoothness, no surging standpoint along with other factors. There is no way the stock tune (04B12) was doing the motor any good. The TSB tune was a big leap for me and OVT was a comparable leap over that.

Even then, it was said that easy custom tuning might be free also. Simple changes to small stuff. All of us are supposed to get tune editing access also. So, the sky will be the limit, as will be the con rods. :D

We'll see what develops. I'm just excited to get back on 2.0.
