This has worked great. Bags and Kitty Litter. O yeah, and gamma seal (food grade screw top lid). Totally was my wife's idea.

Also wonder how many people have woken up having to pee in the brand new tent on the roof and proceeded to fall out onto the ground because they were half asleep? I wouldn’t trust myself. Especially after a couple of snorts. I guess I could wear a safety harness. Har har.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
The thing I find most confusing about this thread (and others like it) is what's with all the childish animosity towards RTTs and the people who run them?

I don't give two shits what you choose to sleep in when camping. Ground tent, hammock, rain coat draped over a tree limb with a wool blanket. But there's always all those sarcastic comments about RTTs. "Oh, it's just broverlanding" "Oh it's a waste of money and gas mileage" "they're just doing it for the gram" and then the dip shit in this thread calling double cabs in general "dumb"

I've camped ground tents, I've camped no tents, I've camped roof top tent... in fact, I still run a ground tent on long trips or trips with colder weather.

I think the moral of the story is. If you like to camp, find what makes it the easiest, most comfortable, most convenient way to do it (for you)... and you'll do it more often... and THAT is the goal (or it should be)

Sort of the midway between ground tent and a trailer setup. Nice niche.

pros/cons whatever. I’ve seen more worthless gear items on these IG broverlander pages. An RTT doesn’t even begin to hit the list of worthless camping gear.

Then there could have been a million other choices that were made wrong before he was ready to pack the tent.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Don’t ask me. I have a problem :)

honestly the people with that thought train should get their ass out of their truck and actually go hike/backpack to a camping spot and pitch a tent/hammock if they feel so strongly about RTTs.

Well, I can tell you from experience that I have never fallen out of my RTT. I have tripped while stepping out of a tent. But, potato, potato...

The fact that someone has to ask what the benefits are kind of says everything you need to know.

    4 run, 2 don't
I love both RTT's and ground tents but for different situations -

Ground tent when I backpack; that's it. I've got an ultralight Big Agnes as well as an ultralight Nemo tent. Last time I used a ground tent though was in Tillamook, Oregon last January and it was raining/storming like crazy.

I kept warm because layers, and carry the appropriate gear, but initial setup (even though it was fast) was painful. Not to mention digging a trench around my tent to keep water from seeping in during the middle of the night's rainstorm.

When I got the RTT for my truck, I fell in love. Plenty of people told me "it may not be for you" but being a marine first, and a backpacker second, an RTT to me is a huge luxury.

    20190828_194043.jpg

I especially love being able to keep my tent floor clean by not having dirt getting kicked in by accident like a ground tent.

I can’t wait for our next TW group camping trip. I am gonna peer out of my tent in the early hours only to see...
my three close friends freezing in their hammocks, 2 couples roughing it in tents on a car camping trip and then the rest of the group. High and dry in their PITARTTS (did I get that right..I did).

...if you take it, they will camp...
