Are they laying flat or is it an optical illusion that where the kickout is it appears to bend up?

When I did my all-pro sliders, I touched up a few welds and stuff with my cut off wheel, then wet sanded by hand. Wipe down with mineral spirits, then use a spray primer. Spray bedliner, you're good to go.

DO NOT rinse with water or similar, you'll get flash rust.

Spray paint, easier to touch up if you actually use them

Agree with GBT. They are going to get beat up and DIY makes them much easier to touch up.

I've used spraycan Hurculiner for sliders/steps/bumpers and have had good luck with its longevity. I prep it with scotchbrite pads on an air grinder, wipe down with acetone or MEK, prime with a self-etching primer, and Herculine away. Line-X is better stuff, but the Herc is a lot less and touches up well. Be sure to clean up any surface rust and oil. Steel is coated with a light grease for storage and it may have some mil slag on it too. In the pictures, your steel looks pretty clean aside from some residual grease Next time a build a set I might try blasting the bars to see if the texture works any better Like any project, it' all about the prep. The better the prep, the better the finish.

If you didn’t live in the Rust Belt i’d say just rattle can them but.......living in the north i’ve tried properly preparing, priming and spray painting raw steel and it never lasts as long as good, professionally done powder coating or Rhino Lining. My experience anyway.
