Is a 2" Lift Worth It?

OME shocks are a definite upgrade over the yellow Bilsteins 4600s that come on the TRD OR.

 

at this point, might as well go LT/Kings with a spring under kit.

it will provide lift.

 

What do you have now?

 

I’m getting more intrigued by the idea of a high clearance rear bumper. Does anyone have before and after pictures of a rear bumper installation; in particular one where the hitch receiver is moved higher? I’m mostly interested in how much it improves clearance / departure angle; not so much the aesthetics.

OP - if you’re looking for a bumper, i couldn’t recommend SOS highly enough.

With wheelers 1 1/2" single aal and 1/4" poly spacer on the driver side.

 

Than you! The pics are nice, but I wish there was a pair of before and after that made it easy to see the difference in departure angle. I might have to just look at my truck and imagine it without the stick bumper and hitch receiver. The departure departure angle seems to be the truck’s weakest point, so a high clearance bumper makes sense to me. On the other hand, a 2” lift plus 33” tires will improve all 3 angles. Choices choices.

 

Unless I’m mistaken, that kit does not lift the rear which seems almost counter-productive based on my limited experience of dragging the hitch receiver over everything as opposed to my front plastic. I 2016 SR5 with the front air dam previously and, although i scratched the crap out of it, hearing my rear end go crunch bang bang gives me more anxiety. I need the hitch to stay functional.


As an aside, I damaged my rocker panel on one trip (and on previous trucks years ago), thus I installed some good sliders.

 

New higher springs, AAL or blocks will lift the rear end. A high lift/clearance bumper will also help eliminate tail dragging.

 

I'll just get a leaf pack and all will be good.

 

That was my thought too. I’ve been considering the 2” OME kit with a full leaf pack.

 

With the added weight of a HC bumper or even a standard rear with a swingout and spare I would suggest you consider heavier duty leaf packs. These will also provide some rear lift depending on which leaf pack you chose.

 

One springs have a rep for settling and losing the lift from what I read

I looked at my truck a little closer and can’t see how a rear bumper replacement improves departure angle. It looks like removing or relocating the hitch receiver is what actually improves the departure angle (which some bumpers make possible). After doing that it looks like relocating the spare tire is the next step. I see where this is headed. Hah!
