whats weird is my brothers boat has the 3d live view and we werent spotting a damn thing. Then the boat we came with were bringing in fish and then our bite got hot even without spotting anything. They must have been hiding in the rocks because we just used deep cranks and they're all knicked up now.

Yup they're all sitting around 20-30 ft in the rocks.

Deep Cranks, A-Rigs and Underswims seem to be generating the most action out there right now on a slow retrieve.

My boat came with like the cheapest Lowrance unit on it, it's basically just a Depth Finder, not even a fish finder. So stoked to get these Garmin units in and installed.

very nice! That will be a nice upgrade for you.

Yeah we stayed about 50 feet off from the island and cast towards the island and cranked fast to get down then slowly reeled in. Even then, they were still picky. I finally caught one off my XD massive crank bait, thought that was cool. They also seemed to like the soft swimbaits we were using as well.

Seems like this winter I’m able to catch fish when I’m not expecting anything. When I plan it all out and get excited to go out, I get skunked. :annoyed:

Caught this little guy yesterday up near Mendocino NF on a mepps:

What’s crazy to see is how my one spot at the delta produced literally 30+ bass each time I went during the late summer/fall, and then I go back after some rain and cold and almost totally skunked twice in a row.....really goes to show just how much they change their patterns in the colder months.

With that being said, I think I’m going to go back out there again this weekend with my kayak and fish for whatever bites. Lol

Must be nice. Yeah try not to flick your cuban cigar ash off the balcony while I row by in my bum-ass inflatable kayak looking like a lost cause. Lol

Kind of unrelated to just fishing, but if you haven’t been through Mendocino NF but want to, doooooo eeeettt. There are a ton of cool trails that even a simple 4x4 can manage through and some have awesome views.

I try to go back a couple times a year with friends/family and it never disappoints.

You guys all know about Tactical Bassin right?

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv8yAO6UKIzMEWCLzKnIbuA

Great channel on YouTube FULL of knowledge, Tim and Matt put out a video every couple days. Their home lake is Clearlake so a lot of the information they're putting out and or showing is on the Lake. But they fish all over.

Love their content! Good dudes and awesome tips I feel like. The recent one where they were jigging deep for catfish on spoon baits....... looks like a total blast.

They've got a Crappie and Cat tournament coming up soon on Clearlake. I feel like the Crappie tournament I could do, but the Cat, I'd feel so lost. Never really done Cat fishing.

I am going to do the BBT Bass Trail for the Northern Region this year: https://www.bestbasstournaments.com/schedule.aspx

i did a drag upgrade on my Penn Fierce 2 reels today.. from felt to HT-100 drags.. i've read that it doesn't give you more drag, just a smoother drag.

BUT look at how the drag washers were greased (or not greased on the 1 reel (these are the drag washers from 2 identical reels... the blue color is the Penn grease)

this is the first reel felt drags above the position where the 3 new HT-100 drags are.

That tournament trail looks legit. I’ve never been part of an actual tournament like that so I’ll be curious how it goes for you.

Yeah I used to be a heavy catfish angler but these last few years I’ve really focused on bass/trout. Would like to get back into them for 2020, especially now that I have a kayak to get to the deep holes. They are easy to fish for if you can find them.

Clear lake has absolute monster catfish too. I watched a few videos on YouTube of guys catching some giant channel cats out of there-pretty crazy!

Edit: here’s a video of another local guy fishing clear lake and accidentally hooking into a few big catfish. https://youtu.be/VKSYSgI0MVI
