I suffered in Minot, ND back in the day. I’ve got a buddy who lives past eagle river, says it’s nowhere near the misery.
    Donuts, absolutely not.
Backwoods, hopefully.. trying to enjoy some of the finer things in life.
Trying to maintain, be able to function but also not spend bookoo and be able to buy other fun toys.

I’ll check it out. Appreciate the input.

You’ll want DOT approved auxiliary lighting for the dark highways at night. Most Northerners would run a true dedicated winter tire in winter. In winter, you’ll want chains and a tow strap, and a decent survival kit.

When doing upgrades, stick with readily available and popular stuff, or factor in shipping. IE: don’t go for some strange tire size or make, or some specialty shocks that need factory rebuilding etc.

I'd recommend some form of rust prevention. AK vehicles rust out like nobody's business.

    Stock for now.. maybe
I guess it depends what part of Alaska you'll be living? Fairbanks gets and stays much colder than Anchorage
I'm with the person above grill bra and heater. Cant go wrong with that. Also just keeping up with maintenance as usual

Where are you going to be if you don't mind sharing?

Oh, and I also recommend some actual winter tires (they are all stamped with the visual of 3 mountain peaks) for winter. They are not only rated for snow but also cold temperatures were as a lot of snow/all terrain are not rated for cold temps

Duratracs have the Stamp Of Approval. I had very good luck with them in what little cold weather I've seen.

Block heater, battery heater or trickle charger, oil pan heater. Plug all three into a 3-1 2’ extension cord and you’ll only have one cord hanging out the front of the truck. You’ll be fine with the fluids in the truck already other than your windshield washer fluid, make sure it’s rated to -40° stuff. Get your coolant tested or buy the tester yourself to make sure it provides freeze protection down past -40°. You won’t need a winch or bumper up in AK more than anywhere else so that’s just a matter of if you want to spend the money and have it just in case. Good quality all terrain tires will work all year, winter tires in the winter will be better but not entirely necessary. Added lighting (bumper light bar, ditch lights, etc) are nice to have when you're out in the middle of nowhere but not necessary. You’ll be living in a large city so there’s not a lot you need to do other than regular maintenance and driving with a little common sense.

Ha! Everyone wins in this situation!

But every time I see some good photos of Alaska, I’m happy for those that get to enjoy it.
