I have a 2010 DC V6 Prerunner with 3500 miles on it and noticed something strange this morning on my way to work. The recycled air button turned off by itself and switched to fresh air. I pressed the button again and about 3 or 4 minutes later, it switched to fresh air by itself. This happened everytime I pressed the button. Has anybody else out there had this issue? My vent knob is set to front. It is not set on the windshield or floor or dual. Is there something wrong that I need to get checked out?

This is normal. If you hold down the button for 4 or 5 seconds it will stay set to recycled air.

Mine will set to fresh, when I'm running the heat. That's they only time I have noticed it turn by itself, which is kind of annoying, b/c I usually don't notice it until I find myself breathing some nasty exhaust from a stupid bus or something and by that time it's already too late. Would like to know if there is a away from stopping this.

Ok, Thanks! Does the factory set the control to do that when the air temp gets to a certain temperature? It is cool this morning. About 45 degrees. First time the temp has been that low.

Yea, it sucks when the smell of a beater car burning oil comes straight through the vent!!!! I can't stand that! Thats why I always like my vent to stay on recycled!

i've given up on controlling my HVAC system...the A/C and Vent always turns itself on and off...i think it might be my hand hitting the buttons when i shift sometimes, but i doubt it

Yea, this was driving me nuts for a while, until someone told me to hold it down. Better than my getting mad and hitting the button harder and harder each time. :D

Talked to the service manager at the dealer and he said that he has never heard of it cutting itself to fresh air automatically. Said that he drives a 2010 and has never had the issue that I'm having. Told him about holding the button down and he said that was news to him and to let him know if that works Haha! Gona give it a shot at lunch! Thanks guys! The info I get from TW is so much better than that of a dealer!!!

Shows you what idiots some of the dealer employees are. The service manager doesn't even know how the HVAC works. I believe it tells you about the recycle button in the owners manual.

anytime the temp outside is 50 degrees or cooler the rec will cut off unless you hold the rec button for 3 sec.

None. Up to now. Probably considering doing some light modifications to increase hp. No idea how to get there.
Good to know you've solved your problem. In my case (2006 2wd-pre-runner), the problem is with the motor which controls the air vent 'flap'. All if a sudden it started making a strange noise ('clicking'). It did not took much to notice that it was coming from the air vent motor (mechanism). I just turned off the "air exchange (lights off)'. Without doing anything else, just tried it several times, just to obtain the same results. Ended up removing the motor. I opened it and noticed that the main ''gear' had stripped some 'teeth'. I tried inverting it 180 degrees, but for some reason it would not work properly. Anyway, to make the long story short, looking for a replacement motor. Have done plenty of searches with no success. Any help will be greatly appreciated. It's quite annoying to go 'on the road' and all of a sudden start breathing 'carbon monoxide'.

Hi to all. Just following up on my previous message asking for some information on the air vent control motor (located just behind the glove compartment).
    Appreciate any suggestion.\

I know exactly how you feel. There is a mod you can do to stop the automatic ac thing. It is very easy to do. After you have total control of the AC no matter where you have the vent aimed. Try searching for AC mod and it should come up. If I remember correctly it is just one wire you disconnect under the glove box.

Shouldn't be on recirc unless the AC is running anyways.
Recirc increases the humidity and the potential for fogging the glass.
The AC keeps the air dry.
