Raptor lights

Remember, half the people that do this to their tacos don't even know about that DOT requirement, they just think they look cool that's all.

I'm having a hard time buying that. Plenty of large vehicles on the road with no grille lights. Can someone actually link the GOV DOT?

 

Have you ever looked at a heavy-duty pickup truck and wondered why it has little orange marker lights on the roof? Well, as it turns out, there's a reason, and they're not just there for show: They're mandated by the government on vehicles that reach a certain size, and they're there to protect you. Might be the same case with the grille lights on the Ford.

 

Here ya go. Doesn't mention grill lights, but DOES cover marker and identification lights.

 

They are not there for safety reason, they make the truck go faster

 

Yea I looked too. Not that it really matters. From what I read - Ford is Out Of Compliance. OR, they are just for looks.

 

Exactly this. Ford had a requirement to meet with the Raptor, and they had the good sense to turn it into a fashion statement.

 

Been looking around on the web to see why the Ford Raptor has grille lights and none of the Raptor forums or Ford know why

 

Seems like other people don't understand "why" the regulation either. I read a couple of funny posts in the short research that I did.

I'm not one to question safety. I do understand the DOT regs for marker lights on the corners. Surely people understand that there is metal in-between those.

I run 4 raptor lights in amber on the pro. Just looks cool. Serves literally zero purpose aside from aesthetics. But it was a little over 100 bucks if you get a GOOD set with a nice harness.

 

No but they are required on the front of a vehicle that is 80'' or greater in width, which the Raptor is along with semi's, dually trucks, etc. The raptor is just creative and puts them in the grille, so yes lights are required in the front for a Raptor but not a Tacoma.

 

I read the DOT.GOV. It says ROOF. But doesn't really matter to me.

 

Regardless, it serves a purpose on the Raptor, just like the corner lights, it doesnt on a small mid size pickup.

Just doesn't meet DOT specifications.

 

Wrong, they are "identification lamps", they do not have to be on the roof, if you look on the raptor forums this is discussed, my dad has had both gens:

"Identification lamps On the front and rear—3 lamps, amber in front, red in rear, as close as practicable to the top of the vehicle, at the same height, as close as practicable to the vertical centerline, with lamp centers spaced not less than 6 inches or more than 12 inches apart. Alternatively, the front lamps may be located as close as practicable to the top of the cab"

I doubt Ford has been producing a noncompliant passenger vehicle for the last 9 years.
