Tacoma in Bagram

Flew into Bagram (Afghanistan) the other day to pick up some parts for our planes down here in Djibouti, and saw something interesting on the way out. A 2nd Gen Taco TRD Sport being loaded onto an auto transport plane!

Cool pics. The C5 is f-ing big. I went up in one a long time ago. That was a blast.

 

I remember a C-5 doing photo surveys for days on end where I grew up in Eastern Oregon. that was around 1986 if I recall. Low and as slow as it went it was quite a sight!

 

I dont know how those things stay in the air...it just doesnt make sense to me, lol.

 

I see those alot "hanging" in the air. They fly out of Westover nearby. Took a tour of one and they are massive!

I got to fly in a C-5 a couple years back. We went out to get on it in the early morning and the thing didn't look real rolling up to it in the dark. We flew straight from Sicily, Italy to Clovis, NM. 16 hours and one in flight refueling.

 

Funny thing is, it was probably actually at a decent altitude doing a good clip, it's just so massive it creates the illusion of being low and crawling along!

Thing can carry 6 times as many pallets as a C130 in it's cargo compartment, and stll has room for passengers up top! I would love to be a loadmaster on that thing, I bet it's a pretty big challenge to get one fully loaded and get the CG within limits

 

It is an illusion as MarineTacoDriver says. I've had the priviledge to walk down the middle of one of these and they are massive. I envy those of you who've had the chance to fly in one. I've watched many takeoffs and landings and you do wonder how the damn thing will ever get airborn. Truly an amazing piece of machinery.

 

C-5's are pretty cool. the damn things are sooo heavy they break almost every time they land though. Cool pics man!

 

Ya a few of these have come into DM. Its crazy cause I feel I can run down the flightline faster than they go... haha. C-17's way more BA tho

 

not to be a dick but taking pics of a fight line is prohibited, posting them online is just plain stupid regardless of how trival they seem. I am a combat soldier, a scout in the army for 8 years and it never ceases to amaze me that people ignore this stuff and are unaware that a WAR is accually going on. I doubt that these pics will aide the AAF in anyway but as a soldier/airman/marine or sailor it is not out job to decide that, it is our job to follow regs. Take this post down, it shows flight line OPs and violates the shit outta OPSEC. The only job BAF has is to supply the fighters with supply, transport soldiers and drink green beans and yet every time I traveled through there I saw more blanet violations and chewed up soldiers than I have ever seen before. Follow regs they are there for a reason and quit putting real soldiers at risk

We've been in a-stan for almost a decade now. I'm pretty sure the taliban has figured out exactly where the flight lines are and have detailed maps of most of the complexes. Posting pictures of a truck on a flight line on a site that's mainly frequented by Americans isn't going to give the taliban any more information than they already have. If I post pictures of the flight line in Kandahar I wouldn't be telling them anything they didn't already know...'cause, y'know, it used to belong to them.

Pretty sure that's the definition of being a dick. You may have a point abotu the pictures although im pretty sure BAF is on google earth. But insulting the guys at BAF, and acting like your better than they are is pretty damn worthless. get over yourself

 

Doesnt matter, REGS ARE REGS and we signed to follow them, COP Keating got overrun oct 3 a year ago. That was my squadron, my deployment, my friends and found on the AAF were facebook pics of the COP. We unintentally fed them intel by posting cool guy pics online. That is my veiw. we signed up to do a job, lets do it

 

BAF being on Google earth doesnt give soldiers right to add to it. Im not better tha dudes at baf but my platoon sure as hell is. Have you been to baf. Have you walked down disney drive. If you have and you still stated that there is not a serious disconnect with reality and a discipline problem then you are outta your mind. Dudes run wild there

 

good point about opsec...but get off your high horse about being combat arms. i can't stand people like you that berate the efforts of the non combat military personnel. you guys wouldn't be able to do a damn thing without us.

 

My point is discipline level, Im stepping down from this volitile point. Saw this post at a bad time and it rubbed me wrong. I look at the world very black and white. Shit is right or wrong. Not 'ahhhh aaf already know'

 

^ gotcha...but you came off as downplaying what non-combat MOS do. i understand your frustration though. back to topic...i had the privilege/miserable experience of loading a C-5 with two of our CH-53Es. it was a very interesting and impressive ordeal but it was a lot of work. as far as flying in them...its not much different than a commercial airliner, i just dont understand why they seats on a C-5 in the passenger section are facing backwards. does anyone know why?
