No apparent contact with the "notabrake". It is a fairly tight tolerance though. Large enough for the bullet but not the case.
I added a sentence to my previous post since you quoted it but I supposed it might be worth shooting it bare.

If the muzzle break has the right I.D. but is not concentric to the bore it would still contact the round. Try it and let us know.

Not sure what the i.d. should be but id think it should be more of a gap in the brake. At 75yds it shouldnt tumble

Bore scope isn't really high enough quality for me to tell anything.

I’m going to assume that the 12 on the barrel is a 12 twist. I’ve taken 12 twist .308s and shot them past transonic before, so unless you are using extremely long bullets it’s not the twist rate. This goes back to what I was saying about barrel wear. That’s what you would be checking. You can look with the bore scope but the definitive answer would be to slug the barrel and measure the lands and groves. I can’t see what you’re seeing, but if you don’t believe there’s any reason to think it’s unsafe, try different bullet lengths, see if 147s-175s stabilize better. Another way to test excessive bore wear or if the bullet is not contacting the lands and grooves well is to chrono the shots.

    Holy rust batman.

"Sporterized mauser"..... I'd wager that somone once shot corrosive ammo in it and never cleaned the gun. Bye-bye rifling.

That's minor surface rust spots on the outside. Proximity of the picture makes it look worse than it is. You wouldn't even see it from 3ft.
No rust or apparent corrosion on the rifling. I don't think that's our issue. :notsure:

I had a buddy buy an enfield recently that was the same way. He paid to have it rebarreled and loves it now.

"Same way". You mean it was keyholing like this one? Did he ever nail down the cause or just rebarrel?

Ok "minor surface rust". The barrel threads look like someone took it scuba diving.

I know the pictures are deceiving. That's just some thread lock type gunk.
Don't worry, I'm not trying to sell it to you, or anyone for that matter. :D

Same issue, tons of keyholing. He just rebarreled and called it a day, totally fixed the issue.
