@Running Board Man who was the member you tagged, and later posted on here that he messed up his manual locking hub so bad, they couldn't repair it on trail?

You don't need to tag him again, just want to find his posts/pics that were left in this thread.

It was about a few months back (2-3)

@Kwikvette, I also find myself looking at 2nd gen Tacomas while looking for donor 4Runners/
hahaha he's not going to talk to us for awhile not because of your kohls/docker shit but because he's busy being a kick ass supportive husband and top notch father to a newborn. Right now he has that support team and around the clock care in the hospital. in a few days when they kick them out, it'll hit him. about to get truly real. I feel for the guy but although I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, he definitely seems up to the task.

Zane is right though, mush brain.

    Ah thanks!

Since then I had taken it upon myself to read even more only to find that both systems have proven themselves, and there's no reason to forcibly go manual hubs thinking it's stronger.

Anyway, curious mind here since I'm watching another thread regarding manual hubs.

    :luvya:

He's the type of poster that posts between conversations lol I remember him wanting to debate ADD vs manual hubs when I emphasized sticking to manual hubs.

I'm all for learning, no need to argue. But yeah you were posting as well.

Yeah the manual hubs aren't stronger at all. Both parts of their mechanisms (axles and hubs) are weaker. The strongest is a manual hub diff tube and add axles and wheel hubs.

    Yeah I figured as much.

Some poster elsewhere trying to push the idea that manual hubs are stronger hence the conversion; I see most going manual hubs as a conversion from 4x2 to 4x4, not a 4x4 ADD to 4x4 manual hub. Just doesn't seem common.

It's just easier to go to manual hubs because people are afraid of wiring. Though if you go with the hybrid system I outlined above you need no wiring. But you might lose a mile per gallon or so.

Go find yourself some sequoia spindles in a junkyard. 00-03 will fit and you’ll already be setup for the larger brakes too. No chtting
