    I would just get a tube chassis to build, before throwing many more thousands of dollars to fit 37 or 40’s.

    Anything past 35’s and long travel is the point of diminishing returns, IMO.

    I start to question the strength of the from CVs with 37s. I know BigMike is running larger but enough wheeling will stress them.

    Where'd you get your rig aligned around here? I'm on Icon stage 3's and 33's, Les Schwab can't figure out how to align my truck worth a shit...

    Thanks! He’s got a little more skill and tools than I do. I think I might eventually redo mine so it’s a little lower profile. Good enough for now though.

    I ran 35s for 2 years on OEM joints, locked the front whenever I felt the needed and never broke them, I'm still using them on 37s periodically as I sort through issues with my POS RCVs... Still haven't broken any.

    As long as the CVs aren't shock loaded they can handle 35s and larger no problem.

    1st/3rd gen CVs are weak
    2nd/4th gen CVs and up are perfectly adequate for people with good throttle control and know when to throw in the towel and winch.

    Are we talking Tacoma’s or 4runners? “4th gen” is throwing me off...


    I do agree, however, with not shock loading. That’s how BigMike is keeping his CVs alive - his TacoBox allows him to go super slow and controlled where others would have to skinny pedal it up an obstacle causing shit to snap left and right.

    1st gen Tacoma / 3rd gen 4R have weak CVs
    2nd gen Tacoma /4th gen 4R / FJC have way better CVs

    I have to specify since there is a difference from the earlier gens to the current gen front ends when I make claims that go against the status quo. The guys that I wheel with that have the older gens have a lot of issues with theirs, even the ones that keep wheel spin down and know how to pick lines break them periodically. The only one that doesn't is running RCVs.
