I know that RCI has a 5-degree bolt-on because my buddy has them on his 4Runner. Worth looking into.

I've said this before in a few other threads, but I think that sliders make lousy steps. Yes, they stick out a ways, but that's only useful when you're loading crap onto the roof-rack. They provide no assistance for people who need a step to get in (they don't drop down and provide an intermediate step between the ground and the truck). If anything, the flatter angle (0-5 degrees) will make them stick out further and be harder to step OVER as you climb in.

tl;dr Sliders are rad, but they're not a very good step.

Every other brand uses grade 8. Rci is the only one I know if that uses grade 5 .

And l it's not even just the bolts but the thin as washer I could easily see a bolt getting pulled right through.
And if you use them hard enough and plan to lift off the slider as well I'd rather know it's not weak hardware.

They use 7/16th hardware when you can use 1/2"

And when it's only 4 bolts per side

Thanks. Those are pretty good tires. I used them for ~6000 miles, and ran into a deal on ST Maxx mounted on Sema Pros, I just couldn't pass up.

As for sliders, yes - they do seem to stick out more than 20° ones, and they take a crap load of abuse on my mall crawler...

That post that you’re quoting is old. We only build 20° now.

What are you talking about? I have 8 bolts connecting each side with my RCI sliders, without drilling any of the extra holes. 20181029_153206.jpg 20181029_153217.jpg 20181029_153221.jpg 20181029_153232.jpg 20181029_153237.jpg 20181029_153240.jpg 20181029_153310.jpg

Edit: You can see I have even more holes to add hardware to. See the light shining through on a few pics?

Toyota (Dana) removed a hole per side on some late model 2016, and then 2017-Current.

But yes, ours grabs 7 per side now that the hole was removed plus the portion that wraps the chassis plus the beam clamps in the back.

you have the newer ones with those parts that go down to the cross member.
They changed it a bit, but with mine they didn't have any of that and there were a few holes that are no longer there on the 2017+ that they say you can pick up.

You have a 2016 based on your avatar so thats why you picked up a lot more. But anyone with a 2017 or later don't have all those holes available.

And it still stands that their customer service is utter fucking shit from my experiences calling them and trying to get shit sorted.
And you can look through the forum and find threads about their shitty powdercoating.

    5-7° i think!? Not flat, not 20°

    powder coat'd.

    No kick.

bolt on ( will ABSOLUTELY hold the weight of vehicle).

Great as a step for my youngin's, not for adults

    2018 SR, no fender flares!

Over done! Awesome! Work great! Already saved my panels!

In my experience, the flatter= more protection of body

More angle = less agressive body protection but better "slide" off of rocks

    Just my 2 cents

To keep lead times under control. Mainly our own doing. We built fixtures to build sliders at 20 degrees. We cut all the steel in huge batches, again to build them at 20 degrees. It was rare to sell them at 0 degrees. Since we have to set up the saw different and lay them out by hand instead of just dropping them in fixtures, it added about an hour per set of labor and it was hard to convince the buyer that it cost extra because the average consumer thinks well you’re still cutting and laying out the sliders, just at a different angle which is true but not so much in our case. We are still working at getting lead times to basically 1 week on everything and we are slowly getting there. Only way to do that is drop options, run larger batches, increase man power and be smart in the manufacturing engineering side of things.

    Got it!
And as an hourly wage earner it makes a whole lot of dollars and sense.

I bought a set of sliders from you guys but haven’t installed them yet. Has it been 3 months?! :bananadead:

Saw the pictures of the new shop! Looks pretty cool for you guys. I’ll definitely post some pictures once I install the sliders and armor.

    Same crap everyone else got
Thanks for the write up. "5° is the angle up, above 0° which puts the top, tangent edge of the outer round DOM tubing 1/2",
does that mean that for ever 5 degree increase up the edge of the slider will stick out .5 inch less (distance from frame to edge of slider)?

    No, it's not linear since it's a trig function. But I think it's only like ~ 1/16" - 1/8" per 5°.
