If you're getting the run-around then it may be time to go over their heads and put a call into the corporate offices. You can locate the number of the COO for the USA or any of his/her counterparts. Cancer, compromised immune systems and mold do not go together anywhere on this planet. Most definitely get a lawyer - check your local Bar Association for advice locating one.

I'm with you OP. I wouldn't accept the truck back at all. Even if they did replace everything and miraculously killed every last mold spore, now you're left with a truck interior that has been completely disassembled and rebuilt? I don't care if god himself did the work it won't be the same as it was when it rolled off the line.

I’m going to reach out to Toyota corporate again tomorrow as I still haven’t heard from the divisional guy. The dealer is apparently having serve pro come in next week, not that I care as I don’t plan on taking the truck back. So I will call Toyota corporate and inform them I won’t be taking the pickup back and would appreciate the contact info for whoever I need to speak with to get the ball rolling in a solution. Kinda done just waiting around.

be careful on using the "i am going to get a lawyer involved". in corporate speak, once you do that... you dont get to talk to the parties involved any longer... they will only speak to the lawyer, and you have to hear it from the lawyer, and vise versa. be nice, until it is not time, to be nice. i do wish you good luck. THIS! While I think it is important that you have been in contact the lawyer use this card wisely and when all else is exhausted. At one company that I worked at, if a customer threatened with a lawyer we would block the account from being serviced. If that customer called in we would have to submit a ticket for the legal team to contact the customer which was always about 3-6 weeks. We literally had to read from a script.

"Thank you for your call. during a previous conversation, you mentioned you are in contact with a lawyer. Due to the severity of the situation we have notified our legal team and they will be in contact with you or your lawyer with the next 6 weeks. Thank you for your call." If the customer continued to ask or pry we would just repeat this over and over. It was horrible.

Call toyota corporate and explain the situation. You will find them much more helpful than the dealer. Explain it as a major safety concern and they will want to squash it. I think you have a good case. You should not have to deal with this (at no fault of your own) on a new truck.

Yup, and at some point it might be wise to start thinking about the possible detriments of this thread existing on the internet...

Only the first few pages and the last couple posts from the OP saying he hasn't heard back from the divisional guy and was going to call Corp back. My main point is that the dealer is never going to be helpful, and all assistance/action should come from the top (ie. Corp) if he wants any real solution.

Got it, thanks for the recap. At work and no time to reread the whole post. Glad to hear the dealer has been helpful. Hope it is all sorted out for the OP who seems to be keeping a very level head during this.

My point remains that any real action will need to come from Corp as this is a manufacturer problem. I have had issues in the past with Toyota, and working directly with corporate has been the only way for successful ACTION, regardless of how helpful the dealer is. Hopefully this dealer (who has evidently been righteous so far) will be a good conduit between OP and Toyota to get this all sorted.

I'm interested to know which dealer in Oregon OP is dealing with as is sounds like they deserve some positive recognition, and if I ever should need service they would be first in my rolodex.

OP, if you're not comfortable posting the dealer would you mind PMing me their name?

I hope you get the outcome you deserve.

I don’t plan on using a lawyer unless I absolutely have to, I like to think I’ve been clear of my acceptable solution from the get go, and as I’ve stated I’m not out for blood with Toyota. And yes in the end it will be up to Toyota not the dealer as to what happens, so I reached out again and got a case manage and expect to hear from them tomorrow. I again made the same points to corporate with my prior cancer history and immune system along with the fact I’ve talked to multiple mold remediation specialists that I was not willing to accept the truck back and am seeking a buy back or FAIR trade in towards a new pickup. So far besides the wait I don’t really have any complaints. Toyota corporate has been easy to deal with, as has the dealer. Weather or not that changes when I actually get to talk to a decision maker remains to be seen. And I will keep this thread here and updated as I have nothing to hide so....

Just read through the whole thead, and as a fellow plumber, I would do the same thing you're doing. We deal with spores all the time and we know and understand the risks and it's never worth it. I can't count the amount of jobs I walked away from or turned down just because I saw mold or asbestos. I'll throw my half mask respirator, bunny suit up do the bare minimum (Shut the water off, isolate the issue, limit the damage ) take pictures inform the proper people and bounce. Not worth it IMO. It's not worth having the risk looming around in your head and distrust of the truck every time you get in it. It's like working with a guy that threw you under the bus, best not to work with that guy again. See what toyota does for you and worst comes to worst trade it in for a new one or something.
