This was fun. I’m not a fan of backing straps. Prefer the open root and back grind so you can for sure have 100% fusion but backing strap isn’t bad. Hope she got in there. Nervous while waiting for the results lol

Well went today and got my Rebel 205 FINALLY, after dropping it off Veterans Day 11-11.
They replaced the High Freq Board and had to reprogram it.
So I was told, it takes a few hours to reprogram after putting that new board in..???

I asked to be credited the 9 or so weeks back to my warranty, but was unsuccessful, go figure.

HOPEFULLY, this new board and or anything else won't fail.

Bummer. That is a lot of money to always be worrying about.

Good luck with whatever route you go.

I've had 3 welders in my short time as a hobby welder. 90A stick, the Canadian version of what you have now, and my new love, a Lincoln 140 MIG. Yes MIG is a game changer, but when I look around in the garage and see the crap I've welded with the flux core, I'm amazed what I pulled off. So Practice, practice practice! Get some 1/8" flat stock and just start welding it together, you'll be surprised at how quick and decent you'll become in no time.

some quick tips I learned along the way

use some anit spatter spray ( aersol can ) on the parts you dont want spatter. Dont be afraid to get the area you are trying to weld wet with the stuff, you'll weld right through it and it makes cleaning up as easy as a light scrape.

use "Hi" for pretty much everything. Unless its really thin and you find that you are blowing holes in stuff. I was able to weld pretty much anything I wanted ( this was pre-truck, so it was just doinkers and wheel-barrow fixes ) by varying my speed. I think my welder's wire feed speed very rarely changed.

try not to run any long extensions cords, YMMV, but on my flux core welder, I could notice a difference when using an extension cord.

that's just my experience with my welder. I had it for 6 years and did all kinds of projects with it. I mostly welded 1/8" stuff, but some 1/2" round bar was welded along with some 1/4" plate ( that one was my fav project with that welder, I wanted one of those fancy motorcycle mover dolly's I seen on the inter webs, but was too cheap to spend $250 on it. Turned out great, and my bike has been on it for the past years! )

so for $40, you made out like a bandit! and if / when you upgrade, I'd keep that one around for those "quick" ouside jobs so you don't have to swap welding wire, and polarity in your welder. I'm kicking myself now for doing just that. The $50 I got for mine seems hardly worth it now that I think of all the crap I have to do just to weld outside

    What a load !!!

The board is installed the machine is tested for other issues or if all is good!!

Under warranty if more problems are found the parts are ordered not warranty the machine is estimated again the nature of the beast some parts need replaced to continue the testing .

There is no re programing now at most if the machine stores 10 settings it is restored to the default settings which takes a few minutes maybe a software update another few minutes.

Thing is to those in the know it is like buying a Tacoma with a frame with fist sized holes.

You hope in selling you get a buyer over come with the Lust for a New Welder .

    I do wish you luck

If Esab was not such a pain( You need to call for prices ) I would be curious what the board cost

Well I'm not planning as of now to sell, just hoping I don't ever have another failure.. I guess I'm rolling the dice in hopes that the new board is better than the first piece of junk.. CHINA.

I ask what it would've cost me if it hadn't been under warranty... He said about 900$ for a new high frequency board.

Also The welding store manager is the one who was telling me what supposedly the repair guy told him... He said the guy told him he had to do do some type of reprograming after installing the new board, and from the way he put it, it was like hours staying in touch with ESAB while doing so.. And kept saying how the guy told him, putting the board in is quick but spent the rest of the day going thru some drawn out process to reprogram.

I just listened, because I don't know anything about repairing a welder. Wish I knew enough tho.

Things are starting to look up. Got another weld test set up while waiting on results from the other job. Completely forgot if I applied for pipe or structural on this one so just gonna go on and wing it

I’m just trying to get as many test/jobs available as possible so I can pick the best pay/hours, won’t stress about the test because i already have another job lined up, and really it’s just fun testing.

Now that the holidays are over I’m sure there’s a handful of guys in here with new welders learning to weld. I’m in the process of moving into a new shop and have a ton of these left over pieces from spindle gusset kits. I usually use them to make adjustment to my welder or let guys practice. I figured some of you guys mights be able to use them as small practice coupons. I’ve gotta have at least 3 times what’s pictured here, but this is currently what I’ve gathered from the stuff I have moved. If someone is interested they can come pick them up or I can fill small flat rate boxes with them and send them to guys who can use them.

    Yeah I can do that.

I’ll consider the ones I posted gone. When I find the other 150 or so I’ll post them up again.

I will give them this if the New High Frequency Board was not seen by the control board !!

A completely different thing then needing to reprogram .

A communication error . Nothing would work till every one is playing nice together

Give them credit for getting it to work rather then wait for another board .

I am sure something was lost in the whisper down the alley every changings things that make more sense to them
