Whats up guys, new sport owner here and I'm looking for some wheels/suspension that dont bring my mpg lower than say 17/19. I commute 2 hours per day, and even longer on the weekend, so good mpg is required. I just want something that looks cool, and can perform when needed in mud/slightly rocky terrain(camping). Please recommend a size/type and an affordable suspension that would give me a 2" lift at most.

Also, I have been strongly considering the TRD PRO suspension/tires because they get virtually the same mpg(how?), although i would like something a little bit higher/bigger.

I have FN FX pros with Falken Wildpeaks (265/70/17) with no suspension upgrade and saw virtually no decrease in MPGs. Get between 17 and 19 (lower in winter).

255/80/17 tires will raise the truck’s ground clearance by about 1.25” without any suspension work or new wheels.

I'm running 265/65r17 (stock size) Nitto Ridge Grapplers, they only weigh 40.2 lbs, lost maybe 1 mpg and its a somewhat aggressive looking AT. Focus on weight when shopping, lots of good options. Enjoy the process and take your time.

Wider wheel, more color options and flush cap. I think they look alot better. They also have a more concave apperance.

They are wider, more color options and I think I recall there being more options for tire makes/brands that'll work with them. I also just think they look better (stance is wider and I feel like the face is more sunken, which I like). I have a black matte decal in the center cap that says TRD to break up the blank flat center cap.

Here's an info thread on these wheels: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fn-fx-pro-wheels.408321/page-98#post-22326937

    list is growing fast
    16x8 scs ray 10 and 265/75/16 E rated ko2’s with a 2” fox stage 3 lift and I was still getting 18mpgs.

if you go with 17” wheels and an SL or C rated tire you’ll do even better.

edit: 18 was conservative average. I could get 20-21 in the summer months on road trips.

My Falken wildpeaks dropped my mileage about 1-2. I previously had Michelin LTX. It is winter and mileage is always down a bit...but since putting them on Dec 1 2019, I've noticed the drop.

I don't see anything on the wildpeaks that state they are load range E...they are 265/60/18

Staying close to stock size tires and shopping by weight will net you the best MPGs. To help offset an increased tire weight, run a lighter wheel. SCS F5s are something like 18lbs? And SL wildpeaks in 265/75r16 are 44lbs. You can opt for a lighter tire with less aggressive appearance like Hankook Dynapro which weigh something like 41lbs. I’ve ran both, I prefer the wildpeaks look and will run them next time.

Best advice here. What came stock was there for a reason and most likely a good mix of functionality and mileage. You can always go heavier, just like you can always go lighter. Figure what best works for you. Like those wheels but they weigh more than stock? Gotta look for a lighter tire to offset, and vice versa. I put some new A/T tires on the stock rims that were definitely heavier than stock. Didn't notice a significant drop in mileage, but if i decided i wanted to burn through them on a road trip, I imagine the cost difference in gas to run them vs. a lighter tire would have bought me a few six packs

Edit: can't give you an opinion on suspension, but that would be a little more complicated as you're getting into the handling characteristics of the truck and aero, not just cost and weight.
