it is an awesome idea but what they don’t tell you is they already own the barrels. Parent company sourcing odd ball and “forgotten” barrels in distillers warehouses that they own.

marketing BS but still I really cool idea

I came across Bookers 2019-2 Shiny Barrel for $69 @ local grocery store today. I've read it's very different from most other Bookers offerings. Anyone tried it yet? Worth it at $69?

Regional shortages drive up demand. Transaction prices respond with what the market will bear. I'm no nuclear scientist but I did take an econ 100 class at community college. Is a finger of Pappy worth $60? Not if you are only looking at the list price (aka MSRP). But we all know that entire collection sells for 4-8x retail price, and is still a unicorn at those prices. So did I pay $60 for that pour while at an upscale cigar lounge in Vegas? Bet your ass I did, because they had it, period :spending::cheers:

Supply and demand unfortunately. I was at a local restaurant not too long ago that typically has a nice bourbon selection but the prices are steep. $25 for Blanton, $17 Eagle Rare, and $54 for Stagg Jr, these were all single pours. I steered clear of there for my wallets sake. I did land on the opposite end of this spectrum a week or so ago. I was out with a few guys from work at a bar out of state and the poor girl behind the bar was clueless. I asked for a pour of Bookers as I hadn’t seen it out to try locally. She poured me a healthy double and charged me $8. I had to point at the bottle for her to know what to pour. This same bar was charging $12 for a single pour of Four Roses single barrel. I hope her boss didn’t find out. I kept my mouth shut and left a nice tip!

How long can/should you shelf a bottle of bourbon like buffalo trace? Just any nice middle of the road aged bourbon. Should something like that be drank in the present before it gets any older? Or would it still be totally fine 20 years from now if it’s not opened?

reason I ask... I’d like to start a little collection and I think it’d be fun to pick up some moderately priced ($20-40) bottles and hang on to them for some time. Just for fun to pull out a bottle in 10 years for a special occasion and have it actually be kinda special.

or would I be better off simply buying a well-aged bottle at the time I want to use it?

I’m basically asking if bourbon is sorta like wine where some you drink right away and some you can save.

Store the bottles upright and they should last for many years no problem. Although whiskey unlike wine doesn't really evolve and the flavor profile doesn't change much over time from what I understand, at least after it has left the barrel. So unless the label or the mash bill changes in the time since you bought the bottle it really won't be that special or different 10 or 20 years since bought. At least not middle of the road bottles that are mostly all blended to make a consistent product. I guess maybe certain barrel picks or single barrel bottles would be unique year to year batch to batch but those are generally sold at a higher price point. That's my understanding anyway.

I heard as long as you keep bottles out of direct sunlight. Bottles of Whisky(ey) will last 100 years.
But they do stop aging when removed from the barrel.

what’s the purpose of it if you don’t drink it?

here’s a hypothetical for you: you spend a lot of money on a wide variety of bourbon and whisky and put it up on the shelf. You have 5 minutes to evacuate due to whatever natural disaster affects your area. (Wildfire, earthquake damage and your home is falling, tornado...) What are you taking out of your home?

I hope the living things take priority. After that, maybe important documents (insurance policies, car titles..)

After that, guess what, you just lost all that stuff guy saved for nothing. Every day is a special occasion. Drink up!

(I can use this example as I lost everything to a wildfire. I don’t bemoan any loss as I enjoyed what we bought and most bottles were nearly empty. Even the stuff that was speedy-over three digits. I only wish to show others that you should appreciate what you have today, it might not be there tomorrow)
