Got my fantastic fan dropped in yesterday... not a bad job. Took longer than expected but you only get one shot at it so I took my time.

One thing I looked at first was the space inside when the lid is closed. I didn't want the majority of the sides folded in where the fan was so I made my cut started 10" from the back edge. It will place the fan where there is less fabric inside. I thought about going further and starting 22" in then it would be free of all fabric. Figured if I needed the fan on with the top closed, I'd just take the two cushions out
    [IMG]

Used a washer for setting the t nuts...

After seeing some of the corner bolts still visible on other installs, I left those out. Use some double sided tape and rtv to help keep the corners down.

To help drop the fan in place, I put the bolts in from inside so it fell in place right the first drop.

Then finished off with some lap sealant. Its self leveling so it smoothed out a bit more over time.

I still have to cut off the excess bolt length inside and put my trim piece in... then wiring but I have a lot of other wiring to do inside so that'll wait. Going to swap the dome lid for a flat one and install a aluminum lip in front to protect the fan.

Good work bro! Fan in the camper is definitely a must have!

Are you able to keep bedding up there?

Yea seemed like a must have upgrade for many reasons. Glad I did it first before getting more things built in the bed. Easier cleanup and easy to move around inside.

Haven't tried the bedding yet but in theory, yes. There's 3" from the ceiling to the bedding. Question will be if we want to add more cushion up there or not. That will change things a bit. Plus we will be rethinking our bedding since our old double bag will be too big since we got that to fit the Mt Rainier rtt that was much larger sleeping area. We have a cargo net below the bed to store pillows and bedding we don't leave up top.

Yea same. Our Teton double bag was perfect in our RTT but had to ditch it when we got our camper. Now we just use old fashion pillow and blankets haha.

I think a couple guys have chopped up their GFC to add a fan now. Kudos to you guys for being brave enough to do it!

That's a route we were thinking about, going to just sheets and blankets. We should be able to keep this setup warmer, so that should work just fine. It would definitely fit better inside.

With the amount of mods i've done to the trucks already, cutting a hole in a roof wasn't a big deal. Taking time to secure and seal it properly was the main focus so i don't have issues down the line.

I saw the deflector Todd has on his drifter that Jerry makes which is another thing i'll most likely add. That's a stout solution to deflect air and branches.

Those are standard with the Drifter. They'll probably let you buy the piece from them. It's fastened with VHB tape so it'll def work.

I figured that. I mean you wouldn't want to let all the stank out right? :p

Or I guess bad dog breath.

helps keep the condensation down within the tent.

i know the CVT we had had better ventilation at the top of the tent which helped. plus the canvas used on the RTT was more breathable.

having a fan in these campers has been proven to help with condensation and overall better air flow within the camper.

plus those beer farts in the morning can really linger if there isn't proper ventilation...

Until you got one I'd never checked out the go fast campers. They look like really sweet units!

Did your old bed rack / canvas setup find a good home?

RTT hanging in the garage and rack setup in storage. we were going to wait until we were satisfied with the change before getting rid of the RTT lifestyle.

Have you been back to FJ summit since 2017? Sarah and I are thinking about going this year. Already have the time off so the biggest obstacle is already out of the way.

small projects chipped away at recently:
replace reverse light bulbs (ground breaking i know)
wired in 3rd brake light on GFC (didn't burn shit down...)
trimmed down and installed trim piece on the fantastical (now i can put the cushions back in)

still working on weatherproofing the bed before i dive deeper into the buildout. some of the cubby bolts are seized in so i'll have to do some :sawzall: or i'll just clean and weatherproof them while installed...

on the fence about keeping the bed rug in there or doing the base plate route then carpet the aisle... seems like the smarter option since i'm sure someone here could use an intact bed rug...

should have a new rear bumper in a month.. looking forward to having the tire on the bumper again

Would you say the event is worth the cost of entry? I know the wheeling isn't anything crazy, but do the group activities and people make it worth the trip?

Congrats on checking off a few little things.. it feels good!

not many events i think are worth the cost of entry... except for Rock Therapy of course

if you've never wheeled the area, the lead groups could be good... i'm not a fan of organized trail runs in events. ih8idiots

you get a shirt, patch and badge. 1 or 2 dinners. raffle ticket (i think you get one with the purchase.. more can be purchased).

to get entry into FJ Summit is tough too.. if i want entry i can usually get in as media, but i save that for people coming in from out of state.

we find some local camping spots, go do our thing exploring for the day, stop in to say hi to friends at the event, grab dinner and head back to camp and drink... sucks you picked the one year we're missing the summit
