Polyurethane Radiator Support Mounts (Cab Also)

I was just thinking same thing...are the problems increased and mostly contained to guys with the heavy batteries? especially the guys that are getting the cracks too?

Just got done.

2014 TRD OR just crossed 40k on the odo.

The driver side was the hardest to line up, like everyone said. The factory bushing liner on the driver side was visibly bent.

I put the small puck on top and large on the bottom. The driver side small washer was slipping off when compressed. So I flipped the top and bottom washer so they're flip flopped from the way its designed. But hey, it's a universal kit right?

 

Do these work on the 3rd gen?

 

The cab mounts, no, the radiator support mounts I believe they do, yes.

 

The cab mounts are different between 2nd and 3rd gen? The frame didn't change to my knowledge, and neither did the cab so I would have thought they would work

 

Nope. Cab mounts have been slightly modified to mount differently.

 

You guys (or anyone else) have (or could please take) measurements on the main body mounts (not the rads)? Looking for dims on top and bottom pucks, both diameter and height, of the 4243 and 4244 bushings.

Perfect! They don't make a kit for the 4R so I am trying to bastardize the taco kit if the bushings are larger than those in the universal kit, which seems a bit undersized for the body of the truck.

 

The problem is its just a thin metal core support coupled with the heavy weight of even the OE battery that is run in conjunction with the setup. By lessening the weight or even removing the battery from the core support location and relocating elsewhere which is structurally more sound you lessen or otherwise mitigate cracking or further cracking of a damaged core support.

Mine starting cracking the very first time I went offroading, and I was going REALLY slow the first time.

So to answer your question, the problem affects all of us to variable degrees, if you are a road warrior you may never see the issue, or you may find it 10 years down the road to a much lesser extent than that of a wheeler who may see damage in 1, 2, or 5 years down the road to a much higher degree because their truck drops, bumps, and jars while wheeling.

That's why I used the

$34 9.4101G UNIVERSAL MOUNT

9.4101G kit instead of the radiator core support bushings in the

$151 8.4109G Body Mount Set-Reg, Access & Dbl Cab

8.4109G kit. I didn't like how undersized and understrength they seemed to be for the sort of forces being exerted between the core support and frame.

 

So are the 9s the same size as the main bushings in the 8 kit?

 

No way in hell. The 9.xxxx bushings are significantly larger than the 8.xxxx Taco specific kit, they also have a notably much higher polyurethane durometer than the 8.xxxx bushings, which is great and the most ideal for movement limitation.

No I'm referring to the radiator support bushings exclusively.

There is only one kit with cab mounts made for the Taco that I know of.

How do the 9.4101 universal bushings compare in size to any bushing (OTHER THAN THE RADIATOR BUSHING) in the 8.4109 kit?

There are two pairs in the 9.4101 kit that do not go at the radiator, these are the ones I am asking about. They are larger than the ones that go at the rad.

 

I have no idea how to answer your question. I installed my kit so long ago that I can't even remember sizes like that.

The ones which are larger in the 8.xxxx kit are the ones you are referring to it sounds like and those are specific to the body mounts. The 9.xxxx universal bushing kit is much larger than the radiator support mounts provided in the 8.xxxx kit and can be sized more similarly to the body mounts which support the bulk of the cab.

I don't know what it is you are trying to accomplish here, of course I understand the T4Rs are a different animal in comparison to the Taco, so I also understand why you are asking oddball questions. I hope this helps, however it may?
