It never fails, everyday I get on here there is a thread about something going wrong with our trucks. Has the quality of the Tacoma or Toyota in general diminished that much? It's almost like I am expecting something bad to happen to my truck. I just rolled 5k and enjoy the truck very much so far. I would just like to get some opinions and see how people feel.

Many people only go to the forums when they're having problems and want someone to fix them, thus you get tons of posts on problems. This is one of the more active forums with a good assortment of enthusiast related topics. I typically trade out cars every couple years and always visit the forums researching my next car, you won't find a forum/car out there without problems, but you have to look at the number of vehicles in production vs the number of times the issue comes up. Every car and manufacturer has issues, but you need to look past that and see what they are and how often they appear. I bought my '06 tacoma about 2 months back with over 65k miles on it and have been very happy with it so far. Doing research on simple things like fixes for "rear axle wrap" have helped me fix the small issues I've noticed.

I have a six speed and have seen posts of people talking about replacing throw out bearings religiously. TRD seats falling apart after 10K miles. Things of this nature.

I have only owned one Toyota, the 2009 Tacoma. I'm at 17K miles, and 1 year 4 months of ownership. There is only one complaint I have with the truck and it is the insufficient paint on the frame which contributes to RUST.

I have the Off Road model 4x4, and I have driven approximately 1500 miles off road and the truck has never let me down. I'm very happy about that.

All other minor issues I have had have been completely resolved through the dealership network.

I understand what you are talking about and it makes total sense. I guess my issue is, a lot of people on here would much rather own a first generation and feel the quality is much better. Just wondering if Toyota is starting to cut corners???

nothing wrong with it yet. i love my tacoma but i sometimes think its my own paranoia because this is the first truck i've ever bought brand new from a dealer. although i do have a scratch noise coming from the steering wheel once i first start to drive but then it doesn't happen after. (only of the first wheel turn) this started to happen after the service people did an alignment...so its not necessary toyota in my case but the people they hired.

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
    Ditto what ec8 mentioned above.

On any product forum you might read, there will be a larger number of complaints / issues. To put it in perspective, how many tens of thousands of Tacomas have been sold in the last 10-12 years ? How many owners are members here ? How many of them actually have problems with their trucks ? It's a numbers game.

It's a similar thing with other products. I've seen it on motorcycle, guitar, computer and car forums.

It seems as though that would be a major defect! I mean, one would think that frame rust would cut down on the truck's lifespan and cause the owner to have a genuine concern. At least it does me...

My biggest gripe is the TSB list, namely the suspension TSB. I was extremely pissed when my brand new truck bottomed out with a small load in the bed and the lack of cooperation from my dealership just fueled the fire. I was disappointed that Toyota sold a truck knowing full well it couldn't do what they claimed. In the end, it was taken care of and I've been problem free and a happy first-time Tacoma owner now for 35,000 miles!
