My Dad had a Grey colored GMC S-15 in the 1980's, the paint came off in big sheets. Think the process for the metallic paints during that time were screwed up, GM ended up repainting the truck and it honestly looked better than it did when it was brand new.

This happened to my 2016 too. I was not lucky enough for it to happpen before my warrranty was up. The dealership had me get a quote to fix it and they sent it to their regional offices where it was rejected. This truck has given me a headache with a handful of other problems. My family has always owned Toyotas but once I sell this I'm looking elsewhere.IMG_0172.jpg

The grill of our 2005 Highlander was peeling too, despite being garage and waxed, Toyota just does seem to have the best paint. Meanwhile the paint on our VW is superb, doesn’t scratch easy and very little orange peel, the rest of the car though...

This is a common problem with Toyota's white paint dating back to RAV4's from many years ago, can't believe it's still happening. Toyota has 2 different types of white, the super white is a single coat - clear mixed with paint, this is the only color they do this mix with. The pearl / blizzard or whatever they call it besides super white is a traditional paint with clear on top, it's usually the second one that has had issues. Looking at white Tacoma's online, it looks like they use the super white which has traditionally not had the same issues. Makes me nervous since I just got my wife a super white Camry SE lol. From all the reading I had done, it seems like it's not something that will stop once it starts being an issue, only time will tell I suppose, hope ya'lls stays good after getting fixed.

    Same issue as OP....

2017 Tacoma, well maintained and waxed twice per year, original owner, no accidents or after market paint work done.

Noticed the peeling paint around the rear drivers side passenger door window when washing it this weekend.

    Out of warranty,
    - 3 years and 6 days old
    - 48k miles.

Both a Dealer and Toyota Experience Center told me too bad, but the TEC did log the case in the off chance there is a recall.
Please report the issue to the Toyota Experience Center. (972-324-7004)
This truck was made in Mexico/Baja 10/2016.

If anyone has had luck getting it fixed after the 3yr/36k warranty, I'd love to hear about the path you took, or who you talked to.

My wife just got a notice from Toyota for a known issue with the superwhite paint color on her Rav4. Hers doesn't have the issue, but it sounds like they are addressing it via a recall like campaign. I would call corporate and find out why other Toyota Superwhite vehicles have admitted to this issue, but not the Tacoma.

If it helps, mine hasn't had any peeling. I'm rolling at 80k and nearly 3 years of ownership. It was built in Texas. My father's '09 PreRunner AC in SW, had peeling around the rear windows. Not sure where it was made.

Same issue with my 2014. Called National Headquarters and they say my truck isn't under their "Customer Care Package". Argued with them for a bit and they told me to take it to the Toyota Collision Center so they can further inspect it.

    Bump

Mine has a couple areas too. Nowhere near that but for a bonus I've got cloudy spots on the hood, roof and door that you don't really see unless the truck is wet.

Just noticed last week I’ve got the exact same problem with paint flaking on my white 2017 TRD OR on the upper right edge of rear passenger window. Same exact spot.

Any confirmation there’s a service campaign?

I just got home and hosed the truck and had the same issue with the peeling on the rear passenger door. I scheduled an appointment at Penske Toyota dealer in downey, ca for Tuesday but based on what Ive read my warranty has expired since I've owned my truck for 3 years and 3 months. I also has the third brake light replaced because of the water going in the cab. it was so bad my headliner got stained but I was able to replace it and hasn't been an issue up to date.

ok hopefully this helps out someone. I just went to the dealer regarding the paint peel on my right side rear door and they said even though there isn't a recall I'm able to make a claim under factory warranty even though I'm past my 3 year warranty mark. So now I wait for a call from Toyota and then go in to get it fixed. However, I don't know if they are only going to paint the door with damaged area or the whole truck but either way I'm going to request an extended warranty on paint.

Toyota's white seems to be a fucked up color.

When I had my 10K service done I walked around the lot, and saw 2 new white Tundra's with rust spots in the paint...lots of spots.

My passenger side flakes off last April. Toyota painted just the affected area. Now my driver side is starting to flake.

Definitely going to reconsider looking at 2020s in white. Barcelona Red looks nice.
