On their website they say it comes with filler plates if you don't get the lights. I don't want the cutout at all.

You could have it shipped raw steel and have a fab shop fill the holes in before powder coat. Backwards I know, but a possibility if there is no other option.

Myself, I didn’t think I would use the lights, but now I use them all the time. When I have my bike rack on, it obscures my camera, so I have to rely on mirrors and the lights are amazing for backing up my driveway in the dark. I have also used them a tonne camping. I only put in the lights to fill the holes, and likely would have ordered the bumper without them, but am so glad I got them.

I got mine without cutouts for sensors or lights. They charged me a "redesign fee for no back up sensors or back up lights". I think it looks much cleaner.

My bad I read it a bit wrong. Yes they'll do them without the cutouts but honestly the filler plates aren't bad .I wish I had done the lights though, I'll eventually get them and wire them to a seperate switch.

my rci bumper just arrived at the powder coat place, but i'm going to pick it up and use steel to plug up the sensor holes since i don't have those on my truck. i was going to plug up the light holes and go with baja designs s1 lights instead, but i decided that is just to much of a hassle to i'll stick with the rigids.
looks like i need to figure out if i need to chop the hitch thing since i'm running slightly bigger tires than stock? only 1/2 inch with stock and i'm running 265/70r17 KOw2s.

what else should i butch up on that thing while we're welding on it? I'm going to look into making sure that the tow design is at least as strong as stock, and reinforce if necessary. once i get it where i want it, it will go back for the powdercoat.

I have my 265/70/17 KO2 in the stock spare tire location without any conflict. You don't need to chop the receiver tube.

The tow design is solid. I've slung nearly 6000lbs off of it and it's super solid.

I'm curious--what was your main motivation in getting this bumper?

This isn't criticism. It looks great. The profile and lines fit just right. I keep telling myself I want to upgrade the front and rear bumper, but I won't do so until I break the ones that are already there. Give me a reason to move past this mental block.

for me it was this in order of priority over just staying stock:

    1. 4 inches of additional clearance/rear departure
    2. Steel vs plastic
    3. getting a few new connection points for shackles
    4. chrome delete

the aesthetic reasons aren't strong for me, but the clearance was the motivating factor

wessyder hit the nail on the head with his points 1-4. If like me, point 4 doesn't apply to you, because you have painted end caps, then look at it this way...

I was able to sell my painted end caps (I think I got $200 for them). If I had waited until I destroyed them, I'd then be out the $200. Might as well sell them and buy the bumper while they're still worth something. If you wait until they're destroyed, you're still going to buy the bumper, so all you've done is waited and lost money.

My motivation was to increase the departure angle.
I kept smacking my stock bumper on cross ditches and had torn off the decorative body-colour caps on a couple occasions and had them held in place with ty-wraps. The cost of new caps was almost the same as the RCI bumper.

I am not a hardcore wheeler, more of a backcountry traveller. However, when they deactivate logging roads where I live, they dig large, sometimes truck-sized, ditches across them to prevent erosion from rain. The ditches are typically navigable if you have decent approach and departure angles. The approach angle on the Tacoma is fine, but the departure angle, especially with the low hitch receiver, hits almost every time.

This bumper solved that issue completely for me, and if it ever does scrape, at least it’s strong enough to take it.

I have not regretted this purchase once, and also am happy I got the Rigid lights, which it turns out I use a lot.

The cost of replacement endcaps... Should be nowhere close to the cost of an RCI bumper.

Then again, if you're getting them from Toyota.... Oy

The body colour cap and plastic substrate it mounts to was quoted to me at $480 USD per side.
