Yup your so right, fuel injectors just like the MAF sensor are on the top of the list for fake in the toyota box.
Since you need only one maybe bit the bullet and get it at the dealership.

It would be a pain to have to pull it out again if it failed or didn’t work correctly

Thanks to all, I ended up going with MotorWest - they have a good reputation as far as I can tell from others online, and he sells rebuilt OEM injectors. I got 6 for $200 bucks and I will be sending him back my cores.

I also gave YotaShop a call while I was looking for crush washers for the fuel rails... ended up buying all OEM seals for the valve cover to fix that leak I have, so it looks like I have a long weekend ahead of myself.

(EDIT) Doh! I skipped the two posts above. Yup That's them...

I've seen this Timmy video and looked at the company. They rebuild, test, match for flow and ship OEM injectors. Nice deal here. I'd do them all at the same time however. Matching the flow is important as is reliability. If one goes, it's likely the rest are right behind it.

Alright so I started digging into the engine this morning while I patiently await the arrival of my fuel injectors today (and hopefully the crush washers and valve seals, which are in a separate shipment).

Look at that filthy throttle body!
    _DSC1327.jpg
Don't worry guys, I bought TB cleaner and also engine degreaser for when i pull the valve covers. The plenums were also caked with sh*t

Most of the hoses labeled up, ready to pull the upper plenum:
    _DSC1328.jpg
    _DSC1332.jpg
    _DSC1331.jpg
That's what the inside of both plenums looked like

    Lower plenum off:
    _DSC1334.jpg

Can someone identify this rogue wire coming off one of the leads to my #1 fuel injector?
    _DSC1335.jpg
It runs to the back of the engine bay, then along the right side, past the battery and to a little switch that gets pressed when the hood is down:
    _DSC1336.jpg

Now I wait for the fuel injectors! Should be here any minute.

That switch. Maybe some sort of fuel shut off for an alarm security system? I don’t see how it would work based solely on being switched by the hood.

I'm not sure, there's no alarm or security system that I know of installed on this truck. Also, the idle doesn't change when the hood is open so I doubt that it's shutting off the fuel injector? Possibly some sort of diagnostic port? Not sure. Maybe I'll just remove it and see what happens. I don't like that random wire hanging off the fuel injector running all around the engine bay.

Just traced the wire down, turns out it runs back into the cab, under the steering wheel where that fuse box is inside. It's plugged into some kind of black box in there. Alarm system?

Turns out, the black box is a Valet 551R remote keyless entry system - which most likely hasn't even had power in ages. Not sure if the PO installed or the one before him. The wire is a "fuel injector control wire" to sense the engine speed...
    Screen Shot 2020-01-04 at 12.28.10 PM.jpg

Yeah, I'm removing that and the whole Valet system.

Quick update! I removed the Valet system, and spent all of last night pulling the valve covers, replacing all the seals, and installing the new fuel injectors. It went off without a hitch, started on the first try once I got it all buttoned up. Or so I thought.... Driving it around seemed fine, until I started to notice some feedback on the pedal. The throttle started bouncing around like crazy. First of all, it has a crazy long crank now. It holds a decent idle but when driving it feels like it can't find the right time to shift gears and around 2000 rpm, it drops 100 or so rpm randomly. It also started giving a P0171 lean code. Any suggestions? @1997tacomav6 ?

Edit: I should also note, that it started "gurgling" aka I am pretty sure there's some air in the coolant lines from when the hoses were open during the fix.

The P0171 code means that, on the first bank of the engine, the fuel system is running weak or a vacuum leak exists near this side of the engine. A lean condition occurs when the engine either receives too little fuel or too much air. A vacuum leak is typical or MAF sensor issue exhaust leak before the 02 sensor, could be a handle full of things

I have two suspects - 1. PCV valve - I replaced it, but the PCV hose is hard and there's a minor crack down the length along the nipple on the throttle body. It doesn't seem like too bad of a crack in the hose to cause this major issue though. 2 - Do you think it could have something to do with my re-installation of the fuel rail? I was not 100% confident that I got the bolts on the end of the fuel rail torqued to spec since they are very difficult to get to with a torque wrench, but they are not leaking fuel around the engine.

ANY air leak or vacuum leak will make your truck run like crap.

These trucks are 20 years old plus, the rubber is old and cracking if it’s original.

I took the time and went to advance auto parts and bought enough hose to replace all my vacuum lines to guarantee no leaks

Okay I totally can see that, I think it definitely warrants a closer inspection of all of the hoses. Though I'm more inclined to believe that I legitimately screwed something up while I was under the hood:annoyed:

Maybe knocked a hose off or split a hose end or bumped/nudged something but you'll find it. You do good work and can tell you care about it:D

May check the little vacuum hose behind the plenum- toward fire wall. That one is missed regularly

I let the car sit last night and all day today. Bought a scanner (been overdue for one) and cleared my P0171 code. Pulled out the PCV valve and took the hose off, its definitely got a good split on the end of it. Made sure it was snugged up against the nipple on the throttle body as best as I could. Also, I did the trick for air in the coolant system where you park it uphill and run it until the air escapes. After I did this stuff and cleared the code, I drove it for a relearn cycle. It drove like a champ. Totally different from the other day. Still gurgling a little but definitely less, but the throttle behaved like normal. I am about to order a whole new vacuum hose kit, do you guys have any recommendations on a shop to get OEM hoses? @1997tacomav6 @cruiserguy

Dude, that's great to hear man!
I'm not aware of a kit that will have all the OEM vac hoses. Something might exist though. I know there are kits for silicone vac lines that guys run here

Just go to O’Reilly’s auto parts with a couple of your old hoses they can fix you up it’ll be a lot cheaper that way
