I was quoted $3050 for a Toyota 125k mile 7 yr extended warranty. Seems a little high for me but not sure. 2x4

does anyone know the current rates (if available) for the extended warranties?

what about the prepaid maintenance plans?

Way to much. Look I sell warranties and with regular maintenance these trucks really don’t have any issues.... I turned down the same warranty at it was $850. My buddy is the finance manager at the dealer. Couldn’t believe I said no lol. Maintenance I do myself so for me changing every 5k miles with synthetic super tech is about $28 I’m going to change the diffs and my manual trans also plus transfer case with some synthetic ...also cheap if done yourself and then do it’s every 30 k miles or so which is overkill but cheap maintenance. Unless this maintenance plan will do all this for like 5 years for $500-$750 it’s too much.
This is why we bought TOYOTA, it doesn’t break.

Extended warranties are sold for one reason, they make the dealership money, not bc they help the buyer. Id never buy one

Way too damn high. could buy 2 for that price. lmao

Shop other local dealers. Doesn’t matter if you bought from them or not, someone will sell it for cost or a few hundred over.

Guy above showing all the years/mileage seems about right. Good stuff getting those prices.

and the dude up there that “sells warranties” is nuts for saying nothing goes wrong with these cars. And if you work for Toyota and passed up on it, I’d suggest to consider it for the price, especially if you’re keeping it for the long haul. Unless you’re modifying the shit out of it.

I’ve seen more than a hand full of Tacoma’s (and heavily modded) coming in with motor issues. I’ve seen full engine tear downs on 3rd gen taco’s and warranty covered it BECAUSE of the ext. warranty. Majority are “ok”, but when your time is up, then you’ll have to pay the piper.
passing it up for cost is insane as an employee.

well worth it IMO, again, as long as you get it for a cost or so.
Divide the cost of it into the years you’d “keep” the car for see what it is.
Do the math.... $1,795 divided by 10 year (10/125k as an example) what cost is that, yearly?

LOL I guess I am nuts. Obviously things can go wrong but you buy a Toyota because of reliability and they are bitching trucks. If your going to keep your truck stock (no lift and mechanical mods) then $1300 or less for a 10 year 125k is fine.

When you read the FINE PRINT of the contracts it does say that modifications can and will void a policy or deny a claim. It is up to the discretion of not just the dealer ( they want it to be covered so they can get paid) but it is up to the claims/administration department if they will cover it. Also, you better do you scheduled maintenance or that is another reason for denial. Keep your receipts if you do it yourself.

I think I figured out the difference. The policy I was quoted in Texas is with GS Administrators. Florida also uses aftermarket warranty companies.
The other quotes that are cheaper are with Toyota financial. I think going with Toyota for a Toyota truck to save money is a no brainer for me.
I will look at dealerships in other states to get a Toyota policy. Hopefully, it should not matter if I purchased the truck at their dealership or not.

Was this a Toyota warranty? I mean, sponsored by Toyota...not another aftermarket company?

I wouldn't buy an aftermarket warranty only the Toyota warranty.

I was skeptical when I bought my extended warranty for the 2016. The sales guy started around the $3k mark and I finally accepted when the price got to $1k. Fast forward to 50,000 miles and I had the driver heated seat failure. Brought the truck in an they said it was outside the TSB... but oh wait... I have the platinum warranty. Walked away without paying any part of the $750 bill. I've also had to leaky rear diff seal changed and a faulty gasket on my sunroof fixed. These vehicles are expensive to work on. Getting a warranty at a good price could pay dividends as it did in my case. YMMV.

10 yr/100k ....... I got that option. Extended warranties can easily pay for themselves, especially as high as labor costs are. I saw the comment about never get a 3rd party warranty and that’s bogus. I always put a extended warranty by a 3rd party on my Harley’s and they’ve been worth every penny.

Yes it is. It is the Toyota warranty you referenced in your original post. I got the 10 yr 100K, but the difference for 10 yr 125K was negligible. Since I only drive 6K miles a year I didn't need the 125K.

They way I looked at it when I decided to buy the extended warranty is the cost was $1200 for a 10yr warranty (or as some will chime in and say 7 yr.) Anyway, that is $100/yr to offer some piece or mind after the factory warranty expires. I can easily afford the $100/yr and consider it a gamble. Maybe it will pay for itself; maybe it won't. It is only $1200 that I paid upfront in cash anyway, so who cares. One covered repair and it pays for itself.

When I bought my truck, they offered me the warranty 10 year warranty for $3000. I said no, and the finance guy asked me why, so I told him I wasn't interested in paying that much for the extended warranty and that I'd take my chances. He came back a few minutes later with an offer around $1500.
