I understand what the OP is looking for, discussion veered into what was compatible connector-wise. I do not know if 2011 non-JBL supports bluetooth but there are a bunch of extra sockets in back that I did not use.

Ok, I did a little research. I was looking at what tacos had 6cd and mp3 or whether I wanted to use the FJammer that I already had. (Had it installed in my 92 that I had previously before I upgraded to a 05)

Part number 86120-04180 is 6cd and reads mp3. It's non JBL so it would be plug and play, but no Bluetooth. Faceplate should say A51865.
There are 4 plugs on the back, the two with larger pins are the 87+ standard stereo plugs that carry 12v+, illumination, ground, front speakers, and rear speakers. The other two with smaller pins are for add on things like 3.5mm aux Jack, steering wheel controls and satellite radio. If you want Bluetooth check out the BluLogic kit. I used PT923-00112. That should get you the right size button for the left of the steering wheel and it will stream audio. Fairly easy install if you don't mind taking apart the whole dash.
Part fitment according to ToyotaPartsDeal is 2008-2012

Part number 86120-04200 is also 6 disc mp3 nonJBL so it should be plug and play as well. Faceplate should say A518A8. Various internet sources say "Bluetooth ready" and said it needs a Bluetooth module.and not sure where that plugs in, but the online Toyota parts vendors list two climate controls, one for w/Bluetooth and one for w/o Bluetooth. I'm not sure what the climate controls would have to do with it, though. The plugs on the back are the same as the A51865, but there's another plug that must be either for the mystery Bluetooth module or it's for the USB/aux.
Part fitment according to ToyotaPartsdeal is 2010-2012.

    Does that help?

If you don't mind hacking up a metra or scosche kit, you can add a 12-13 Highlander radio that has Bluetooth
86140-0E110 faceplate should say 57055. You'll at least need a microphone 86730-73010 to go with it, but I don't know what else. And the antenna isn't the same. It looks like the 2016 Tacoma stereo that someone posted here earlier.
There's a similar Scion stereo that's listed as having Bluetooth PT546-00121 faceplate in this is T1818 and requires a PT546-NU160 microphone. Same wonky antenna. Might be found in 2012 Scion iQ, tC, xB, or xD.

Fitment probably won't be perfect though, it's a bit of trial and error:
    IMG_20200108_150102597.jpg
You can see the gaps on the sides. I'd like to redo mine. And it's going to depend on how far forward the Tacoma brackets put the faceplate.
    IMG_20200108_150113139.jpg
The FJammer sits a little bit too far back.
But I was able to add steering wheel controls with some careful cutting:
    IMG_20200108_150146465.jpg
And am aux port, though it's hidden for now:IMG_20200108_151046504.jpg
It hides when not in use:IMG_20200108_150836349.jpg
If you see one of these phone buttons in any junkyard Toyota, that's the blulogic:
    IMG_20200108_150139281.jpg
It's the button, the microphone which both plug into a little black box and has a wiring harness that puts the box between the stereo and the stereo wiring harness. So just follow the wires and pull those four things. Or spend $70 online and get one that you know works.

Go aftermarket. Or go a step further and add in a Nexus 7 or tablet of your choosing.

    Wow! Great post!

Can I take a guess that the bluetooth heater control is adjusted through the stereos touchscreen? !!!

Thanks for the props. I wouldn't expect one would need Bluetooth for that, just a wire from the head unit. Never seen one in the wild, so not sure. I may have to go back and look at part numbers and do some more internet searching.

I don't think I'd want to drop $600 to find out what the differences are o_O

there are a bunch of threads about this (1-2 are the main ones with replies on what to do but i need to find them)

I was one of the first couple that added a 2014 entune plus non jbl into my 08
Plugged in; came with nav antenna, had to buy the microphone from a scion iq and harness but bluetooth works.
but for better fitment id advice getting the radio/air vent surround from a 2012-2015 tacoma

What mine looked like a couple years back:

since then i added the a/c controls from a 2013

(to clarify; toyota used to use a specific harness on the jbl but when the 2014s came out they had those radios made with the standard toyota harnesses that all their normal vehicles come with)

I knew I had seen this somewhere. So shiny! I think I read your thread. We're you the one that tried fitting it with original vent surround and it left a gap at the top?

This I did not know. So adding a JBL amp and head unit from a 14 or 15 would be as simple as plugging the amp into the existing standard Toyota harness, then use the JBL harness from the amp to the Head unit?

I wonder if the voltage levels are similar? (JBL amp input/JBL head unit output/regular Taco stereo ouput)

Do you mean wattage? I don't think so. Regular Toyota units are internally amplified. I've messed around with both when bench testing them. If you hook head phones up to the speaker output of a JBL unit (without the amp), the sound is rather quiet. If you do that with one of the internally amplified stereos, the headphones get too loud to be anywhere close to your ear.

That's what I would expect but you never know until it's checked. The JBL head unit is probably putting out a low voltage pre amp level signal whereas the regular Tacoma stereo puts out speaker level voltage.
