The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review

Don't forget the Pro's have more spill over up high vs the Sports. Even with the them aimed level or a few degrees lower than it will still spill over. The beam height shouldn't be any higher than the height of the fog light itself.

 

How long did you wait for shipping? I just ordered mine. Did you do the install from the top through the hood?

 

Easiest way to install for me was from the top through the headlights. I took the grille off tho, made things much easier.

 

Just ordered DD SS3 Pro's in Yellow from y'all. I like to support the new guys sometimes, and it was about time I pulled the trigger on them anyways since my fog light bulbs died months ago

I think I ordered them just before the New Year but once they shipped it was extremely quick. I think I got the shipment notification and then they arrived maybe 4 or 5 days later. This is from NJ to CA as well.

I did the install through the hood by myself. Didn’t take off the grill either. If you have long enough arms it can be done. Would’ve gone a lot faster with 2 people though.

 

Rumor mill is some people think these get a little too toasty; DD just sent me these photos.

They do get hot, but I wouldn’t call it too toasty. That temp gun reading shows 191 degrees F (88.4C), my IR temp reading was just over 200 from the back of the pod after 15+ minutes runtime in an ambient temp of roughly 65 degrees.

 

That‘a not hot. Warm enough to melt ice or snow off it and clear it but think about how hot halogens or gas bulbs get

 

I would say that’s around ideal.

 

Did you do the same temp measurement with the sports and get an actual number after 15 mins?

 

The Sports were much cooler. Heat is a byproduct of power, and the Sports are 14.5w vs 36w of the Pro. The cooling design is the same and the Pro has nearly 2.5x the power, it is going to translate into roughly 2.5x the heat to dissipate. I did not repeat a comparable temp test in the initial assessment with the Sport but I will when I write up a full review. Keep in mind as well, with the LED pod design the back of the pod is always much hotter than the face of the pod. But when installed in the bumper, what is important for snow performance is the heat at the face of the light.

Stock H11 TRD fog with ambient temp of 75 degrees.

 

Well as soon as my order gets here I will do a real-life test and post here. This picture was taken 5 minutes ago, although the snow fell last night. Not a ton of snow, but I’m sure there is a lot more to come with this mild Winter so far

 

Just installed baja design squadron sae but I'm starting to like those ss3 now .

 

Mine (SS3 Pro Selective Yellow Fogs) should be here Monday. Can't wait.

Is that with the new SAE lens or the old one? Looks like it still just floods the whole area.
