So..after spending 12 hours at work today.. got a message from a super treasure hunter friend that this was sitting on a shelf less than 20 miles away. Now it's sitting on a shelf 2 feet away! Haha

    IMG_20200109_183249525.jpg

@Misplaced Nebraskan there was only 1 on the shelf.

Woohoo!! This one is 132.8 .. the website says 125-140 and there's no obvious batch numbers like others do.

I got to try some when I was at the distillery last year, way too hot for my taste but it was interesting to try. I did fall in love with the No.27 Gold when I got to try it there too, glad it is actually available to buy now at home.

Worth it. For sure. I really enjoyed that batch. Reminds me of the deep oak, black pepper spices of some of the 2015 batches. I'm a buyer at $69!

Keep it out of any light and it will hold just fine. I believe the BT uses a synthetic cork, so no worries about it drying out. As long as the seal is fine, it'll taste just like day 1 if you open it 20 years down the line. If you're for sure storing it and want a little peace of mind, get some parafilm to put around the top of it.

I'm all about opening bottles and tasting them, but I do like the idea of holding on to some fairly inexpensive bottles like that. I gifted my parents a bottle of Seagram's VO from 1979 (the year they got married) just recently. It was inexpensive back in the day, so it isn't "special" in the sense that it is some rare thing (like a current Pappy Van Winkle, for instance), but it is a WAY cool bottle for them to have and special to them because it is what they drank back then. People find the old labels of stuff like Weller Special Reserve pretty neat and those are only 5 or so years old. Buffalo Trace will go through some changes, in labeling if nothing else, and a current bottle will be a pretty neat thing to behold in 2040, in my opinion, even if the whiskey itself isn't rare.

I have a bottle of Booker's from 2016 and a bottle from 2013 - my daughter's birth years. I'll hold on to those for an occasion with them down the road (wedding day?). Nothing particularly special about the bottles, but they'll be neat dusty bottles 20-30 years from now.

Yep! The whiskey itself won't change. I don't see the mash bill changing, but the product evolves over time, even if slightly. Ask folks that covet older bottles of Wild Turkey. Will it be better or worse? Who knows. I think a 20 year old bottle of whiskey is always cool, regardless of what it is.

LOTS of fans of it in this thread, myself included :D.

It makes killer whisky sours, too ;).

Interesting. Not how I would personally describe it, but that's the fun part about whiskey. I find it to be rather mild and almost creamy. Different strokes for different folks!

I think that's why I like his idea of doing it with $20-40 bottles. That isn't an "investment" per se, just an inexpensive thing to hold on to. I have a Dallas Mavericks shooting jacket that I never wear. Why? Because Dirk Nowitzki signed it :D. I might lose it in the hypothetical house fire, but it doesn't mean it isn't worth holding on to.

I'm totally with you about opening bottles. Lots of folks buy all of this potentially great whiskey, then just sort of look at it. Maybe to sell higher later on down the road? I don't know. However, throwing an extra Buffalo Trace in the back of the storage closet is, at worst, a loss of $20. Besides, you can get another bottle easily, so you aren't missing out on the experience. I've lost more money on stupider things. I think it'd be pretty cool to get the boys together and crack open a bottle that's been sitting around for 20 years. "This is the stuff I used to drink when I was XX years old." I like the idea of doing it with a daily drinker much more than I like the idea of doing it with a limited run, top notch bottle, frankly.

Available all day long at Spec's around here. $55 I think? Happy to help anyone out if need be. I've had a taste of one of the batches (I forget the proof) and man was it good.

The gold to me tastes exactly like black with a touch of maple. Couldn't justify buying another one. The Sinatra though... :bananadance:

My wife got me some engraved rocks glasses and spherical ice molds over Christmas so I figured it's time to start using them with some 1792

If you got the silicone ice molds... don’t leave them in the freezer for extended periods. Mine took on a weird smell that gets into the ice, so I tossed it. With my new one, I put it in the freezer the night before I know I’ll be consuming.

I see EHT SB fairly often, but Stagg Jr. @ retail is a unicorn in socal. This is batch 13. I had to buy one, then drove 15 miles to another store to fetch a 2nd.20200110_132929.jpg

So I guess I'll need to put one in freezer every day that ends in 'y'...

Ha exactly. I wondered if you use/refill it more often than I do, maybe it wouldn’t get funky. Probably the case.

Tornado formed a few miles from here. Didn't touch down, so all should be good. Nastiest of it is past us. Celebrating my neighbor's birthday at their place now.
