Well its smog time again so I dealt with this.

Thought Id try the antifouler trick while I waited for the new 02 sensors to be delivered...
    The anti foulers work awesome!

I have new downstream 02 sensors sitting here, just showed up.
I'll slap them in tomorrow and pull the old ones/antifoulers and see if I can screw it all up and have to do it again lol.

Thanks for the info, saved me a LOT of time driving around randomly hoping to accidentally meet drive cycle parameters.
    Love you guys!!!!!

    Sweet info!!
I have to get my truck smoked this week, I have evap codes popping up like crazy and I need a smog by the end of the month. I'm assuming the charcoal canister has gone bad. I hear those p000 codes can be extremely hard to shake.

Try that 1st evap drive cycle once you get it dialed in.

I only had the cel for the p0430, no evap codes. But once you reset it is a very specific cycle that readies the evap.

Removed the antifoulers and installed the new downstream 02 sensors 3 days ago and everything is still green, ready to go.

    Thought Id update....

    Passed cali smog np

I watched the tech thru the observation window...
1st thing he saw is the trd gen2 intake, then the carb exempt sticker attached to the truck. Wrote down the # and moved on...
He pulled the plastic engine cover and went over EVERYTHING with a mirror, a flashlight, a fine tooth comb after that.

He then crawled underneath and inspected the exhaust (flowmaster 50 dual out, pipes out the sides) 02 sensors, cats etc. THOROUGHLY

Then he called his guys over ( lucky me! I got the owner yay ) and held a short clinic pointing out the intake, the exempt sticker and took em all underneath to show them what to look for under there.

    Bottom line it passed.

I did ask him if he was familiar with the spark plug antifoulers on the 02 sensor thing and yep, they're illegal, he specifically looked for that and would have failed visual.
So glad I installed the new 02 sensors ( found them cheapest on Amazon )

Much better than the last smog with the gen1 trd intake haha when the guy closed the hood without doing anything else and said no go with that on there.
I went home tail between my legs and put the stock intake back on.
( which btw always passes even though the carbon filter um, "fell" out since year1 )

So, while the anti foulers did keep the code cleared and cel off, I would NOT have passed with them still in there.
At least not here in north california at that shop.

Seems theyre on to that trick.

    Just fyi.

Thanks again for all the info!
    Love you guys

That's good to hear it passed! Similar story, mine passed too!

I was at my buddies shop throwing on a new wheel bearing last month. We were talking about maybe smoking the truck to see if we could find a leak before I went forward with replacing the charcoal canister.

I recently cleared the codes by unplugging the battery to do some work on the steering wheel. So at the time I hadn't seen the codes pop up for a bit but knew they would show them selves again soon. We got finished on the bearing and asked him if we could run the diagnostic real fast so I knew exactly what would fail before I did a test smog. Just for shits and giggles. I'll be damned, the evap check was all green! I couldn't believe it. So I took it over and got a smog asap.

Major weight off my shoulders. So I'm at a point now where I need to figure out why the codes are tripping. I'm still considering the canister or fuel tank cap thread. Or even worst case scenario, a rodent chewed an evap wire. But it's a back burner issue. Glad to hear your code problems are behind you!

Wow. Getting ready to move back to Cali and completely forgot about their smog checks and how it relates to my tacoma. Guess I need to start getting it ready. Thanks for all the great info in this thread.

    Yeah man you too!
    Glad you got it passed!!!
Nice to hear you have a guy!
    Always awesome to have that!!!

Me and my brother were just talking about past shops and guys we had....sadly, no more.

I had a guy long ago that would do it for $20 and he would write it out on the closed hood of my chevy.

Its such a pain sometimes with an older vehicle. My cuz just paid $1200 bucks because of the cel in her car and my stepmom paid over $800 and the cel still came back on a week later and another trip to the shop....
I told them I have a bluetooth code reader and we could figure it out but I guess they dont mind supporting the system.

    Smog is such a scam.
Every vehicle in the world seems to pop a code around 200,000 miles or so.
Cant be a coincidence Im thinkin.

    Anyways, good job. Congrats.
Wish I could help you with the evap but I havent had that issue yet with my truck.
