Help with 'Noise'

I have a 2004 4x4 5spd. w/45000 miles and I hear a chirpping noise but when I touch the clutch it goes away. Any thoughts?

Throwout bearing is going out.

Seems kinda low mileage for that to happen though, do you ever rest your foot on the clutch when driving?

 

No. but the previous owner may have.

 

ok good, because doing so takes up the freeplay in the pedal and makes the throwout bearing spin constantly, wearing it out faster.

You could maybe leave it for a while but there is a chance of it overheating and exploding if it really gets bad. I would just go ahead and replace the entire clutch as soon as possible.

 

I am having the exact same issue. I just bought the truck and I have the service records that say the truck got a new clutch kit this July. Unless the bearing was bad from the start I can't imagine that it could have gone bad in only 3 months. I would think that if the bearing really is bad the noise would be worse when the clutch was pushed in as there would be much more load on the bearing.

It only takes the slightest pressure on the pedal to stop the noise. Is it possible that an adjustment of the master or slave cylinder pushrods could correct this issue?

 

The noise is not loud at all but I need to have it checked.

 

You could check the pedal freeplay. Try a google search on the subject but I think about an inch is normal.

if you have to little freeplay that is just like resting your foot on the clutch all the time so that adjustment is very important.

Also is the clutch kit OEM or some junk off brand?

It won't be loud, probably like a cricket if its the throwout bearing.

 

I had this problem on mine and they said the the "teeth" on the clutch didn't fit true and that they had to just reinstall the clutch. This was after I got my clutch replaced so with yours I would think that it was the throwout bearing making the noise, especially since the noise goes away as soon as you touch it.

 

I had my truck into the dealership today to look at my squeaky throw out bearing as I described above. I fully expected them to say that the shop which installed the new clutch for the previous owner, or the non OEM clutch kit was to blame. I was pleasantly surprised when they told me that the release fork needed some lube and that it was all fixed up for a total of $33.

The noise is indeed gone, I would suggest anyone having this issue to attempt to lube the release fork before you worry about pulling the tranny to check out the release bearing.

 

Would someone please tell me how to lube the release fork?
