I've got his front and love it. Just wish he would have a hybrid type of one similar to CBI's. That way it matches a little better with his front hybrid

Not that you need a new bumper. Just thought it was cool and don't hang with many 1st gen owners.

    Sounds about right.
Not a whole lot of room in labor on these things and you can't go to much less on material, otherwise thee strength will suck. Just the way it is on these things.

Don't forget though that CBI started off making 1st gen stuff. Their 1st gen designs haven't changed much in over a decade.

This isn't going to be a basic bumper. Hi-clearance swingout for $1400, there will be no basic bumper

I agree with that. I guess the point I was trying to make is for 1400 it needs to be a swing out.

What's the difference with "hi clearance" and non high clearance in terms of cost?
But yes if it's a swingout at 1400 that sounds right.

I wonder if we'll get BAMF'd on the quantity or if this will come to fruition.

Not sure as not a lot of companies make high clearance for first gens. You could look at the difference in price of 2nd gens to get a rough idea :notsure:

Eh Billy is pretty good about stuff like this. After Pelfreybilt went down he called me and was asking if I was in the market for a bumper and was talking to a local about using his rig as a template to start producing them for us. But that's just speculation until we hear from the man himself

I would keep your eyes peeled for a used one in the marketplace for that price range, maybe a used Trailgear tube bumper or something similar. Unfortunately I don't know of any steel plate or tube bumpers for under ~500 - 550. Buying used though you might find something in that price range.

That's even out of his price range and it's not welded. Labor will be additional. About the only option you'll have without having someone local make a custom basic one.

Thank you for all the input. To clear up some stuff, for reference I used his pricing for a 2nd Gen bumper. Maybe I calculated wrong or he hasn’t updated his website. He did tell him that pricing will be a little higher because the 1st Gen wrap around bumper uses more materials. Even with cost going up his prices hasn’t change since he started, a price increase is likely to happen.

I’m trying to get another mass produce swingout option for us. This thread is about gathering enough interest to make it happen. It is not about my guestimate price and it does not reflect what BFF will actually charge when and if the times comes. Before I posted my guestimate I even thought it was low but it did generate talk. Until he actually gives the ok it’s still just talk. Maybe I didn’t make that clear and that is my fault.
A month ago when BFF and I spoke he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to go through with making a mass produced swingout for the 1st Gen Tacoma because people aren’t willing to pay high prices for an older truck. $2000-2500 bumper for a $6000-$10,000 truck, crazy, but $2000-$2500 bumper for a $25,000-$50,000 truck that’s sounds like a fair price. So if this bumper actually comes closer to the $2000 price range does that mean no one will be interested?

I think maybe a Poll on what first genners would pay for a dual swing out could be a good idea? I think the picture you posted for second gen looks reasonable to me. I would definitely buy at those prices. First gen should be the same unless theres more material, or if he makes less. Production quantity has a major roll in cost obv.
There's always a should cost (that's the cost engineering says it should be) and then there's the market cost, that's what someone is willing to pay for it.
I don't think it's fair to say a first gen bumper costs less than a second or third gen, because the truck is cheaper. The bumper price should reflect materials, labor, and demand.
I do understand how its harder to SELL a 2k bumper on a 8k truck haha. Maybe that's why the first gen market is so stingy.

Also, from being on the forum, I feel the first gen crowd is less on the hype than the third gen. It almost seems like they are a more reasonable consumer. Modest truck, modest mods, etc. This means that that crowd is prob less willing to blow 2k on a bumper. I think there is a relationship with the demographic.

You have a lot of good points to consider. Thanks for the input.

This was a favor for someone and I happen to show up at his shop before the project was started. I wanted to know if he could make another one and that's when I found out he doesn't do custom orders because he still had a lot of orders to fill. He still has to make jigs for this bumper and then verify that they would produce the same result/fitment every time. I don't believe BFF does any kind of advertising and they are not on social media much. Most if not all of their business is from word of mouth. The products that BFF offers with their quality and design you would think they would be more out there. BFF seems like a small operation with a small crew, but maybe that's how he likes it.
