Bummer! Just curious, why no high beams?

I know its hard in an emergency, but always remember to turn to where the deer is not where its going

This place is crawling with wildlife, damage was surprisingly light all things considered. I’m think paintless dent

Ouch. Hope there isn't too much damage. Was it just the one deer that ran?

The most popular way to hunt deer around here is with an F 150. Rare is a year when someone I know doesn't hit one.
Flashing your lights sometimes gets them to move, but often you don't have the time.
Hitting a deer is bad, how about an elk? Four times as big as a deer and not as fast. Almost hit one on my mountain bike.

For those that don’t want to watch a dude drive for two minutes:
To see a baby deer run in front of a truck after cursing; skip to 1:35.

The company I work for does a lot of delivering outside Craig, CO and the driving is in the middle of the night. Lose a truck pretty much annually to Elk. They'll really mess your vehicle up.

That said, growing up in Alaska brought even bigger problems... moose. We lost people almost yearly in Anchorage that would hit a moose in a car. The problem you run into there is the height of the moose versus the height of a car. Cars are so low compared to where the weight of the moose is that when they hit the moose it's all legs, causing the moose to fall on the hood. If the car is going fast enough, that moose will slide through the windshield and crush the occupants. Not pretty. At least when its just a basic accident the meat doesn't go to waste on that. There's a long list of folks that will come out and salvage whatever they can from that moose for food.

Hit an elk at 25mph a few months ago up in the mountains. In hindsight, I should have kept the lightbar/high beam on but didn’t because it was shining into the windows of cabins nearby.

Purchased HIDs afterwards and think it would have prevented my accident. The lightbar and mount caused more damage to the radiator than it actually helped. $15k in damages.

When Chris and his mom Shelley arrived in Edmonton the following morning, doctors told them Bouvette had 14-plus fractures in her cheekbones and eye bones and a fracture at the base of her skull. She received 41 staples in her skull, as well as stitches.

"All of the damage is from the nose up," says Chris, noting his sister also has a cut right on the outside corner of her right eyelid. "It seems like the moose just took the roof off and that's about it. Her friends went to the car and they were able to open the doors and everything."

A little over a year ago, I had a hit-and-run deer run into the driver door of my Toyota Matrix. All I saw was a flash of a deer head in my door window. Luckily the window was up. Ripped off my side mirror and dented the back door. Never saw the deer when I stopped.
Does anybody have success with a deer whistle on their bumper?

I'm a big advocate of aux lighting, I run ditch lights and fog driving lights as well.
I've had the deer whistles before, but noticed no real difference. A loud muffler does about the same..

Big thing is to slow down, watch the ditches, and if you see one deer expect three..

I consider myself lucky. If I had been a split second slower, she would have ended up on top of my windshield.
