Rear leaf and steering column chatter tsb blower mtr replaced(waste of time) 2nd blw. mtr.; new headlights from DRL melt issue new water pump9 leaking0around block) pwr steering rack leaks, right frt. wheel bearing bad.
How long do you think the 2nd gen 4.0L motor will last under normal use? I know that it has a new sleeved block that is supposedly non-rebuildable, but even my first '77 22R Hilux pickup went forever. Any CREDIBLE comments?
P.S. I have a friend who has older Toyota station wagon thats a 4x4 and a few rebuilds later he's at 479,000 and a daily driver!
I'm the same type of person, I'll have this truck till the wheels fall off, would have kept my '96 Taco 4 ever only my son came back from Germany needing a vehicle and I did what a Dad does best.

my first engine only lasted 27,000 miles. But there is a story for that.

    Under normal use probably forever.

I remember when the new hyundai alpha engine went out (for the new accent models, with ''vvti''), they said that the engine was rated for a 400 000KM lifetime so that is 250 000 miles of normal use on normal oil.
I guess the toyota engine would go far beyond that.

It's a Toyota Motor dude. It's going to run to at least 250,000mi as long as you do the scheduled maintenance. That's a minimum. In reality, it will probably do 300,000+ if you even keep it that long.

250000-300000miles with synthetic oil. That's for engine internals... Rod bearings, main bearings, piston rings. Stuff which when it breaks, usually requires engine rebuild.

The main cause of engine deaths are failed rod bearings, which make wonderful knocking sound aka "death knock" and that is usually caused by not changing oil regularly or running the engine low on oil.

I don't think anyone really knows the answer to that, every truck will have a different engine life.

Use good oil and right oil, change it when it needs changing, use good filters, and don't abuse the motor.

You'll sell it or trade up, before it goes bad.....if I were to guess.

    Hope that helps.

Thats an interesting question, i have been wondering the same thing. I wanna keep my truck till it falls apart. 250xxx sounds good to me. Heck ive had it 5 years and it barely has 50k on it. it will last a lifetime with me.
