Continued from last night...... (part 1 here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ttc-☆-official.541185/page-5862#post-22432861 )

Then there was the trauma associated with the accident and making a decision of what things I wanted that might remind me of the accident. So the wife and I went to the truck once the State Police released it and we took all the things I wanted. One thing was the tonneau cover, that was not damaged, amazingly. I wanted all my patches. I took all my lighting mods that were not damaged including the interior lights. Gasshole, and I tried to salvage the hood struts. Impossible to believe but the only thing wrong with them was the plastic ball end on one was broke. I took them both anyway. I was able to get a deal this past Black Friday another set.

There's probably other things I'm forgetting but basically I took everything I could except for the big ticket items like the armor, which was already determined to be trashed, the wheels and tires, and the suspension. The right front tire was backwards and crushed so that entire corner was toast. Considering the impact force and how I literally went over the other car I didn't want to take a chance with the remainder of the suspension being bad, plus like I said, I would have to replace it to take it and that was completely out of the question.

We decided to cut our losses and move forward, mainly trying to leave the bad memory behind.

I had to stay on the insurance company the whole time. This was very very disappointing considered we had been with them for over 30 years. It was State Farm too and trust me, we have and pay for as much insurance as we can afford. Ultimately we are going to look for another carrier.

So after two months the insurance company finally agreed to a settlement. Fortunately the Toyota Tacoma in general retains a lot of it's value, plus we had the gap insurance, and they paid about 40% of the mods I did.

Once I knew what that amount was I had a more accurate idea of what my options were on a replacement. At the same time, a member/friend in the Md thread contacted saying his son was a salesman for Toyota located in Md, down on the Eastern Shore. It was over a two hour drive but I had no problem promising them a sale if he could work out a satisfactory deal.

It was between a 20' Off Road Long Bed with the Premium Tech Package and Off Road Package or a 19' Pro with the Desert Air Intake. Both were Voodoo Blue. One of the main things I wanted was the TSS. I know, unlike most, this feature was very important to me considering......... Sure, I would have liked to have some of the newer tech features and new power seats but then I wondering how important they actually were in a truck that will be used off road. The multi camera option would be the really only beneficial one. If I am that desperate for that, I can install my own. One thing that pushed me into a Sport originally was the hood. I am an old school motor head guy and hood scoops are just damn cool. Working or not.

So those were my choices. It came down to the money though, as most things normally do. On one hand I could have the most current version of a replacement Taco with all the new tech, or I could a replacement that was basically the same tech as my other truck with basically all the same mods, with a few improvements like leather. I was getting custom wheels, a lifted more than adequate suspension, a hood scoop, cool color, and a much more capable off road vehicle than the Sport was.

So I applied for the Toy Financing on the web through the dealerships website, and got a call we were approved at a really good rate. So then I asked our salesman to give us the best possible price for both vehicles. Keep in mind this was a month before 2020. Naturally the incentives on a 2019 were much greater than those on a 2020. For example, the snorkel is a $900 option. there was a $500 rebate on that. My golden rule of vehicle buying has been "I walk unless you can give me 15% off the sticker price" no ifs/ands/or buts. This is our 15th new vehicle and I have been using this buying tactic for the last quarter of them once I learned I could get away with it.

This time I told my buddies son I would not be that hard on him but I would settle for the average discounts either. In the end, with our finance rate, the sales incentives, rebates, and a 15% down payment, he was able to put me into that Pro for $4.00 less a month than we were paying for the 17' Sport, for the same term, with the Gap Insurance, and the Toyota 10 year / 100k mile warranty.

The 20' off road would have been almost $100 more a month. A 20' Pro was completely outta the question. I feel like we made the absolute best choice under the circumstances. Yes, I will never forget that Inferno Sport no matter how much of me wants to but each time I walk towards the Voodoo Blue Pro, I almost forget the entire ordeal.

Ok, so then yeah, you can definitely relate Dylan (and I'm sure we are not alone). Because of the mental trauma associated with this accident though, there were memories associated with some of the mods I couldn't bring myself to move to a replacement.

    :fistbump:

Yea, it was a horrible lesson but now I know to make sure what you're paying for when you send that premium payment in. I still like the look of the Inferno but it is hard to look at without remembering. The black accents though are so accentuated and make some of the lighter colors pop so much. The Taliban Tan and Cement were high on my list and if I could have gotten the same financial deal I got with the 19' Pro on a 20' OR in either of those colors I would be driving one now.

    :fistbump:

Nah. The worst part of the break was one part of the bone is just floating in space but the doc said it’ll heal np. Then two fractures one up by the knuckle one on the bottom of the forearm. We were worried they’d have to rebreak it but they did some sort of heat treatment molded this brace to my arm gave me pain killers and sent me on my way
