Do you have that with the taco? Clearly she does, but I'd hate be stuck with two.

i was thinking about one of those before I got the taco. But I really wanted a 6 speed.

the 4Runner would have been a no brainer for me if it came in manual.

I dont think any of us are roasting you, just trying to help with options and opinions, you have to admit, two tacomas in one household is a bit odd.

It is and if a deal comes around for a Lexus we'll look into it, but she really does LOVE the Tacoma.

We have a super white off road Tacoma and an all black 4Runner. Perfect balance in my opinion. I'd look at a used GX460 next time around, but with the little ones it would just get destroyed immediately anyway haha.

About to head home from work and see if she's dead set on the Taco... She didn't like my 4Runner, but she might be inclined to check out the Lexus again.

Lol, right. Moved back to the Chi town burbs and amazes me the comments from girls in my cohort about vehicles they are impressed with or want, so shallow, Mercedes, BMW, etc.

First off, you want to buy your wife a Tacoma and I think that’s amazing. Any wife should be so lucky!

Second, it sound like you’ve had the Daily Driver discussion already and I’m sure that included things like groceries and what not. I’m sorry you’re getting secondhand mansplaining as to why a woman should get a vehicle that accommodates her shopping habits.

Third, I’d feel the same way she does - if we are going to spend $40k on truck, it damn well be as close to perfection as possible off the lot. Other people may say she’s nit picky, but I think she’s being smart, knowing that with such an investment - it’ll be worth it to hold out for the best.

Limiteds are great, because there’s a lot of basic electrical features that you won’t have to worry about adding later. Modding our things you can clip on or bolt on is easy, but electrical mods (like seat warmers and such) can be a pain.

(Btw, I have a 2013 so the interior is duo-tone black and gray. I have special paint for the gray plastic doors but it just seems like so much time and work to do so I haven’t painted them yet. They start looking dirty fast and it’s annoying. I wish I held out for all black interior - oh well.)

Anyways, I’ve wanted a Tacoma truck since I was 15 and maybe your wife didn’t realize a Taco was her dream until she drove yours . I drove small, compact cars for 20 years because I was trying to be practical and logical with mpg and passenger space, but I’ll tell ya what - finally splurging on my truck was the best thing I ever did for myself and gives me more confidence and satisfaction than any of my Corollas ever did ;)

For other commenters, she’s not ignorant. She knows what having a truck bed and no trunk means. You fellas ever heard of camper shells? If she wants a covering for her bed for more storage, she could get one of those, ya know? Or just get a double cab like I did so I can put whatever I want in the back seat. Did you know the seats fold down too? “Don’t get her a truck, she doesn’t know what it means to have a truck...” You boys sure do crack me up. So what if they have two trucks. I think that’s freakin sexy if you ask me.

To OP: Sounds like you and your wife both have great taste! I really hope you post pics if she ends up getting one ^_^

Damn I want that Yaris or the Celica.

OP - The GX460 is a great vehicle, and starting to get more aftermarket support, if she doesn't like the 4R idea. It will be more comfortable and powerful, but harder to "murder out". My GF has one and we use that more than my Taco. I'd highly recommend it, but you'll probably get better gas mileage in a Taco. :D

No one ever called his wife ignorant or implied that, thats your assumption based on how you perceived/read it. Some of us simply mentioned that if OP hadn't already informed her or told her when she suggested the tonneau cover that it wont be 100% waterproof or have the same functionality as a trunk/rear cargo space in an SUV, if you've never owned a truck you wouldn't know that or have first hand experience, something that is important to mention when dropping $40k on a vehicle and to be mindful of. You also have no idea if they have kids, plan to, etc. kind of making that whole backseat folding down point you made mute, we are well aware they fold down and the cap doesnt seem like an option/desire for them. You can get off your soap box / high horse now trying to call out people here based on your percieved view and assumptions. Sorry but comments/remarks like these are irritating.

I used the word ignorant because it means “not knowing.” I agree that your intention was not malicious, but you assumed she didn’t know. I was stating that it sounds like she already does know because OP said they had talked about it already in his very first post and I was bringing up the things I do to accommodate storage. Being ignorant is not an insult. Sorry for your irritation. Just posting my opinions from “the other side”.

There is so much woodgrain in the GX so not sure if she would like that or if you cant to cover it, especially over the steering wheel and the tech is very dated compared to a 2020 Tacoma. I'm guessing she doesnt want a used vehicle anyways?

    I'm triggered (just kidding).
We bought our 2015 GX brand new when we started our family and its been trouble free so far and plan to keep it forever so depreciation wasnt a factor, just wanted a brand new one, no guessing on history and warranty.
Agreed with the Wildpeaks, i put a set on over a year ago and it gets us around great in snow and rain.

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more with the people telling you to get a 4Runner when you didn’t really love yours and your wife wants a Tacoma. If she loves the Tacoma then get her one! They’re great. The 4Runner is heavily romanticized around here for no real reason (and I absolutely love 4Runners.) There’s no doubt the Tacoma is a much more exciting vehicle to the average person and a truck bed is nice to have. You really can’t go wrong with any of the trims, especially since you already have an OR.
