I'm familiar with the upkeep of a tank fortunately (had my snake for some years now) and right off the bat you've given me some good recommendations for housing, etc.

I'll look to an online care sheet for feeding, cleaning, etc.

Having never bought a spider before though, and wanting to use that link you gave me, should I just wait until larger variants are available?

Unsure what "c/b" means and in looking at other species, noticed they have different sizes available on their drop down.

I take it this is an indication of how young said spider is if it's really small compared to how big it is at adulthood?

Kind of wanting to nerd out :anonymous:

It could be a while before that particular species is available in a larger size on that site. But here are a few other good beginner species that should at least be a few inches in body length ... always get a female:

"CB" means captive breed (IE not caught in the wild)

Females live for far longer than males ... some species up to 25-30 years! The females are also always larger ... which let's face it, anyone who wants a pet tarantula wants a big one. :D

Ha ha some of those males are lighting quick. Male tarantulas take pride in being minute-men.

Yes indeed. I will warn you: keeping tarantulas can easily get addictive. You start with one and then see the variety of different beautiful species out there and end up wanting to collect them all.

Here is actually my preferred website that I use to purchase my spiders: https://www.spidersworld.eu/en/ They are based out of Poland and aren't currently shipping due to the cold weather, but they have a fantastic selection of species. They don't ship to the USA unless you send them a message first.

They have "beginner" and "advanced" mystery boxes. I assumed that is to prevent people from being eaten alive ;>)
