They've been on for a couple hours now. First impressions, significant road noise, but definitely an improvement from my worn out Kelly Safaris.
I'm pleased overall. Nothing the radio won't drown out.

Thanks for the comparison. Definitely going with the 255/85/16 on stock off-road wheels. I was worried about them being way to skinny. Thanks again

Agreed. I wish I could find another A/T Mountain Snowflake and/or a dedicated snow tire in 255/85r16.

I don't see the weight listed on the Toyo site, but I'm not super worried about weight. I think people overestimate the effect of tire weight. I have a general understanding of the physics and understand that the wheels add rotational kinetic energy in addition to translational kinetic energy, but the total truck weight is so much more than the moment of inertia of the tire that I'm skeptical that it is as significant as people think it is. The same topic comes up in the bicycle community as well. I could be proven wrong. I have not actually done the physics myself.

Edit: here is one person that did the math. I didn't check it for mistakes, but he calculated that for a truck about the size of a Tacoma that the wheels make up about 8% of the kinetic energy of the truck. That seems small enough that I'm not worried about a few pounds difference in tire weight; especially since I added 150 lbs of sliders.

I checked with a few places on those, emailed Falken and didn’t hear back, and then gave up and bought Coopers.

Ome 887s, dakars, lr uca, sliders, konig countersteer,
I'm looking at 255/85/16 on my konig countersteer off-roads width is 8" back spacing is 4.5 and offset is 0. My question is, is that too narrow for the width to air down when off-road. I know the description says it's within range but wanted to hear from you guys that have done it.

59 lbs on the Toyo site. And it lists them as 33.4" tall. That's a half inch taller than most others in this size. I might investigate these further. I like the fact that they are considered Commercial Grade. I'm not sure exactly what that means yet though as far as LT class tires are concerned but I'd like to think it means a low rolling resistance, excellent on-road mannered tire, that can handle any kind of off road abuse you can throw at it. If it mounts without balancing issues like most more expensive tires it might be worth a hard look. Even if it is expensive.

I wish Toyo's own ratings for this tire were better. Dry and wet are as important, if not more to me than winter.

I wish there were more all-terrain options in the 255/85r16 size. Snow traction is very important to me and I have heard many times that mud-terrain tires are terrible in snow. I might have to go with a 255/85r16 M/T for summer and a dedicated snow tire in some other size (stock maybe) for winter. Anyone have experience?

So far I’ve experienced great snow traction with the ST Maxx, granted they’re only 2 months old. They did well in our untracked 18” in early december.

What did you have before to compare it to?

I had a set of Falken Wildpeaks last year that did well but in a 265/65/17.

Which did better? It’s hard to qualify “did well” unless you have something to compare it to. One person’s “did well” could be another person’s “they sucked”. I would expect the wildpeaks to do better in the snow because they are a A/T tire with a mountain snowflake rating. They also have more siping.
